Itβs not always about what you can add, but in fact what you can take away, which can often be more beneficial to help you take your progress to the next level! Wise words by Phil Ellison Triathlon Coach
Q. So, yesterday's little riddle - whats your first instinct to fix this wonky bridge?
A.Add a block on the left to raise it up?
Remove a block form the right?
Scientists have asked this question to many people and the overwhelmingly more common answer is to add a block.
However, in real terms this would require more resources and be less efficient. But human nature is to look to ADD more when things aren't right. So now you may be able too guess where I'm headed...
Say that you have a plateau in racing performance - "what can I add?" - supplements, strength, double threshold daysπ
etc... Few will ask "should I remove something?" - less training and more recovery, less alcoholπ₯², less phone use at night, less non-training physical activty (dog walks, gardening etc...).
This is simply food for thought and a little exercise that can apply to all aspects of life and indeed health and wellbeing. Not sleeping well? Could you sleep better by removing something than adding something to your routines, diet, habits?
