There is enough hate, violence and weapons to destroy our planet multiple times over. It's not the answer. Love is everything. Love for humanity, for each other, for ourselves, for the planet. There is an idea that when we boil everything down there is only love and fear. And fear just needs loving. As Marianne Williamson says, you don't fight the dark with a baseball bat, you just turn on the lights. Let's turn the lights on. Bright. ✨🤍🕊️

Meditation for Peace
Saturday 14 June, 3.30pm
at Love Yoga Ltd or online via zoom (link in bio or DM)

Please join us this Saturday afternoon for a guided Meditation for Peace.

Meditation is a powerful practice for peace - both inner, personal peace, and outer, collective peace. The perspective in Yoga is that we are all joined, that what affects one, affects all. It's likely you’re feeling the reverberations and shockwaves of things happening around the world, and likely you’re also surfing waves of your own personal trickiness too.

I’m very aware how easy it is to feel powerless and hopeless and helpless these days. I am also extremely aware how incredibly powerful each of us actually is - especially when we join forces.

Studies show that meditation works. It improves personal physical and mental health, but that it also has a wider impact. Studies show that people who receive prayers and the meditative focus of others cope better with any difficulties they’re going through. We could debate the whys, but at a time when things are so incredibly difficult for so many, I believe it's worth doing whatever we can to help.

Please, gift one hour this Saturday to Meditate for Peace, to connecting with parts of ourselves that are beyond the usual busy-ness, disconnection and stress. Meditating alone is beautiful and powerful, doing it together will amplify the effects and change things, in ways we can’t even imagine yet.

Come along to Love Yoga Ltd on Union Terrace, Aberdeen or join online via zoom

There is no charge for this, no booking required.

Come along, bring a friend, you don’t have to know how to meditate or be good at it, you just need to be willing and want to bring your heart and your energy together for peace and for love.

(There are lots of other ways to help, if you’d like me to share practical things you can do, reply and I’ll share what I know.)

Love is unequivocally the answer and the only way forward. Sometimes love is a hug, sometimes it's a smile to a stranger. Sometimes it's holding a door open, or buying a meal for a hungry person. Sometimes it's sending aid money, sometimes it's being there, still silent and present while someone suffers and grieves. Sometimes it's a clear firm 'No', a 'not here, not with me, not on my watch'. Sometimes it's a petition signed or a protest attended. But it's always a 'we' thing. We are not powerless. Together we can do anything. I believe in us ❤️

Right now, thousands of people dressed in red are making a human chain around Westminster calling for an immediate end to UK complicity in the Gen o cide in G a z a 💔 we are calling for the UK government to completely stop arming and trading with I s r e a l. Immediately. And to do everything in their power to get aid of all kinds into Gaza. And to STOP THE G E N O C I D E✌🏽 🕊️🇵🇸💔 🇵🇸 ‼️ ̇ne

The demo we attended yesterday was beautiful - it was safe, and the loveliest, kindest, friendliest, warmest, most heart centred vibe I have felt in a long time. (Think about that cos my every day life is bringing groups towards a state of yoga, so lovely energy is part of my normal)

You know that I was genuinely nervous about it.... I shared so yesterday, and everyone has been messaging saying 'stay safe'..... It's blowing my mind to realise that there's a tendency to be afraid of standing up together. Perhaps the portrayal that's been proliferated has tended to be that demos are scary and dangerous and protestors tend to be portrayed as angry, shouty, baddies 😳 maybe there's a tendency to fear feelings and the expression of them.....

The truth was though, that everyone there was someone with a big heart and empathy and compassion and a heart-centred conviction and the willingness to stand up and say it's not ok.

Such genuine kindness and respect for everyone else. A genuinely great bunch of folks! It's actually wild to think we were worried about anything else!

I cannot recommended enough that more of us do the same. That desperate feeling of being powerless and alone, unable to do or change anything? It is not true.

Connecting with people moved to stand up brings hope. It is something tangible to help those suffering know they're feel so alone. The more of us that do it - it will turn the tide.

Those in charge are making us complicit, but they are public servants, that's literally their job description - if we make it clear we don't want what they're doing, they will have to stop their selfish nonsense. There are so many good people in the world. We are all in this together 💛✨

We're heading to peacefully stand in the hope that a rising tide of voices speaking out will make some difference somehow. We're standing for humanity, for love, for hope, for the p a l e s t i n i a n people and especially the children. But also for every single one of us here on this planet because as so beautifully and clearly explained in her recent speech to the UN - as humanitarian organisations are targeted, as hospitals, Drs, children, the press are targeted, as the rule of international law is disregarded and as world leaders pontificate public ally but change nothing in their practical support of what's happening & therefore if the people in G a z a are not safe, none of us are safe. I hope this makes sense. I'm pretty nervous but I really truly cannot *not* do something. I wish I could do more 🙏🏼

Did you know that I first did yoga on a Buddhist meditation retreat, and that it basically changed the direction of my life?

My daughter was a baby, I’d moved back to Aberdeenshire from London, the relationship I’d been in, and a job in investment banking. I knew it was time to reassess. I knew that being the best person I could be was a priority (not just for me but for this small person I was now responsible for) and so, I started meditating….. and meditating felt amazing. It gave me these windows of peace and space inside my otherwise busy head. It made me feel present, and open and lighter. So I headed off on retreat to deepen into this practice and find out more.

Retreat
The retreat centre was far away from anything and everything. Deep in nature. The buildings were incredible simple. The schedule was simple too - practice, eat, rest/be in nature & repeat x3/day.

This simplicity. This stillness. This slowing right down, living simply, surrounded by peaceful nature, away from shops and cars and noise and busy-ness….. this was all part of retreating. Into myself, into Yoga (I now know!) and it transformed me. It is a precious and magical thing.

This is why I absolutely love running retreats. This is why I really want everyone to benefit from the gift that they are. Incredibly profound, deceptively simple, literally transformative.

If this appeals
There are still a few spaces left for this year’s retreat: 6-13th July, at Hidden Paradise in the Alpujarra Mountains (on a mountain literally called the Mountain of Love!)

Retreats are really special to me. It was on a (Buddhist meditation) retreat that I first found yoga. It was on retreat that I found the magic of presence, spaciousness and genuine joy. And making time to retreat is basically essential for me.

Going on retreat means stepping back from 'normal' life's busy-ness, demands and pressures.
It's not a yoga holiday - we don't do some yoga then go sightseeing, or do some yoga and then go shopping (there's nothing wrong with these, I do these too, but it's retreating).

Retreat is much more powerful and transformative.

Retreat is slowing down and living really simply. It's being in beautiful nature, eating clean food, and deepening into simple, powerful practices that bring us to magic of here and now.

We all spend so much time running away from now, from ourselves, from the present moment. Distracting ourselves from the things we can't bear to look at. On retreat we step back from everything that distracts us from actually being present for this one precious magical amazing life we're living.

I've been running retreats since 2013 and I really, really, really love them. Holding these spaces and sharing the tools of yoga to help people find peace inside, space between their thoughts, presence here and now, and the ease, light and joy that these being.... this is why I'm here on earth.

There are still a few places for this year's retreat was to Hidden Paradise, 6-13 July. You coming?

Link on my website, through my bio, in the retreat highlight on my bio.... if you want to come you'll find a way 😘

Ps it's an absolute bargain ✨🌀🩷

"Last night I dreamed
ten thousand grandmothers
from the twelve hundred corners of the Earth
walked out into the gap,
one breath deep
between the bullet and the flesh,
between the bomb and the family.
They told me
We cannot wait for governments.
There are no peacekeepers boarding planes.
There are no leaders who dare to say
every life is precious,
so it will have to be us.
They said
We will cup our hands around each heart.
We will sing the earth’s song, the song of water,
a song so beautiful that vengeance
will turn to weeping,
the mourners will embrace,
and grief replace
every impulse toward harm.
Ten thousand is not enough, they said,
so we have sent this dream,
like a flock of doves
into the sleep of the world.
Wake up. Put on your shoes.
You who are reading this,
I am bringing bandages
and a bag of scented guavas from my trees.
I think I remember the tune.
Meet me at the corner.
Let’s go."

Totally kerchuckled when I saw this ⬆️ thinking about this Monday evening's Vinyasa Meditation practice....

➡️ I always check in at the start of class, and a few folks were feeling deep unidentified rage or anger.
🌀 So we used the magic of yoga - ✨ pranayama (breath work),
✨ asana/postures/movement,
✨ mantra/sounding
and of course culminated with
✨ meditation.

🔥 Instead of pushing the so often unwelcome feeling of anger away, or painting it with sparkly pink paint, we used yoga to give it space and a channel to move through.

🌅 It was majestic and glorious! By the end of the practice we all had such
✨ space and
✨ peace
in our bodies and minds.

A M A Z I N G ✨

I absolutely flipping LOVE working functionally with yoga!

What that means is that instead of our practice being about getting into certain shapes or perfecting them, it's about using the various tools of yoga to achieve or move through states so that we come into a state of yoga. Magic 🪄✨

Ps This Saturday afternoon some really awesome yoga magic will be occurring at Love Yoga - I'm hosting an afternoon mini-retreat/workshop teaching all about the awesome
Archetype of Hanuman and yoga practices to help us connect with our inner strength & light so we can be our best selves and make a positive difference in the world 🌎✨ DM if you'd like some of that in your life 😘
