Lipoedema (lip-o-deemah) is a chronic condition with no cure. It manifests by unevenly distributing fatty tissues most commonly on the legs, but can affect the arms, too. It can cause disproportionate body shapes that can make a person look overweight, when they are not, alongside leg pain and sore skin, sometimes with overhanging skin folds, as you can imagine this not only affects people physically, but can also have tremendous impact on their mental health, too. This study was conducted to determine whether prophylactic use of compression sleeves prevents arm swelling in women who had undergone axillary lymph node dissection for breast cancer surgery, and showed that prophylactic use of compression sleeves compared with the control group reduced and delayed the occurrence of arm swelling in women at high risk for lymphedema in the first year after surgery for breast cancer.

Did you know there are different types of Primary Lymphoedema?

Primary lymphoedema is a genetic condition where the lymphatic system hasn’t fully developed. It isn’t caused by surgery, cancer treatment, or trauma it’s present from birth, even if the swelling doesn’t show until later in life.

The three main types are:
🟣 Congenital (Milroy’s disease): present at birth or early childhood
🟢 Praecox (Meige’s disease): appears around puberty or early adulthood (before age 35)
🟡 Tarda: appears later in life, after age 35

All three are primary lymphoedema the difference is simply when the swelling begins

Raising awareness helps more people recognise the signs early and manage their lymphatic health with the right care, compression, and support 💜

Swollen legs? Get it checked out, then come see us for medically correct compression socks/stockings/tights. Don’t waste your money on cheap, ill fitting socks that don’t comply with UK regulations. Don’t skimp when it comes to your health, you’ll be taking a dangerous short cut. Get the proper thing first time.
