Concussion - "If in doubt, sit it out"

Just had webinar on latest concussion guidelines and hadn’t realised how long you might need to rest while the brain uses all of it’s energy to restore the nerves. Brain energy can get really low while this happens some time between 6hrs – 7 days and then 22-45 days for full recovery.

Avoid re-injury during this time, get health professional advice and listen to your body. Concussion can happen with body impact too, it’s not just head and neck.

Kind of explains the 2 packets of Oreo cookies per day and the muddled writing I had whilst trying to study 15 years ago!

Often women don’t feel confident that they are doing pelvic floor exercises ‘correctly’, usually it’s a case of building the connection between the pelvic floor and brain again:-
- Focus only on the pelvic floor i.e the saddle area or between your legs
- Ensure the buttock muscles aren’t contracting too, especially at the start
- Exhale while you are contracting
- Squeeze by pulling your p***c bone towards your coccyx, then lift
- Practice long squeezes at half strength, short squeezes at full strength

Are you carrying tension in your pelvic floor? Signs can be:-
- Pain in coccyx/sacrum or deep in buttocks
- Pain while sitting
- Constipation, UTI symptoms but negative for infection, painful s*x
- Shallow breathing, bloating, abdominal distension

Plagiocephaly - I wouldn't say this is not, not normal as I see this commonly in clinic, it's probably not the best labelled photo to be using! Anyway, there are varying degrees so advice / exercises are specific to each baby and you can book an assessment to cover this. Tummy time is always a good one and encourage looking the other way if they have a favourite side :-)
