We love seeing people like Millie Mackintosh speaking openly about Dyspraxia 💙 Her story beautifully highlights the everyday challenges many children face with coordination, motor skills and organisation.

At Speakeasy Therapy, our OTs support children to build these skills and their confidence through fun, play-based sessions 💫

💛 Dyspraxia Awareness Week 2025 💛

This week, is Dyspraxia awareness week, also known as Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) a neurodevelopmental difference that affects movement, coordination, and motor planning.

Children and young people with dyspraxia might:
✏️ Find handwriting, buttons, or laces tricky
⚽ Struggle with balance or coordination
🧩 Need extra time to learn new skills
💬 Feel frustrated when their body doesn’t do what their mind wants it to

At Speakeasy Therapy, our Occupational Therapists support children with dyspraxia to build motor skills, confidence, and independence, all through fun, meaningful, play-based approaches.

💛 Every child deserves to feel capable and confident in their own body.

📩 If this sounds familiar and you’d like to learn more about how we can help, get in touch.

🌈 Celebrating Self-Regulation with the Autism Level Up! Approach 🌟

Over the past few weeks, our amazing OT and students have been diving into the world of self-regulation using the Autism Level Up! approach. Together, they explored how to tune into their bodily cues, understand sensory needs, and discover strategies that help them regulate throughout the day. 🧠💛

Today, they put everything they’ve learned into action by creating their very own regulation posters! 🎨✨

Some students designed energy meters to track their levels, while others created personalised strategy lists with activities to help them feel calm, focused, or alert. By incorporating each child’s unique interests, we made learning about self-regulation not just informative, but fun and engaging too!

We couldn’t be prouder of their creativity, insight, and the incredible progress they’ve made. 💪

🌟 October is Selective Mutism Awareness Month! 🌟

Selective Mutism is often misunderstood as shyness, but it’s a real condition that makes it physically difficult to speak in certain situations. Those affected experience a freeze response, where the words feel stuck, even though they want to communicate.

At Speakeasy Therapy, we support children with Selective Mutism using Speech and Language Therapy, Emotional Regulation Techniques, and Individualised Strategies. Our goal is to help children build confidence in their communication, at a pace that feels right for them.

If you’re concerned about your child’s speech, get in touch with us today! 💙

🌟 Our Wellbeing Wall 🌟

At Speakeasy Therapy, we’re so proud of the progress one of our students has made as they near the end of their Occupational Therapy journey with us. To mark this important milestone, they worked together with our wonderful OT, Sarah to create a Wellbeing Wall, a display that’s all about reflection, support, and sharing positivity. 💛

Through this display, our student has shared mental health tips, positive messages, and words of encouragement, creating a space where everyone feels safe and supported.

It’s not just about celebrating how far they’ve come, but also about helping others feel uplifted and reminded that they’re not alone on their journey. 🌱💬

This Wellbeing Wall is a true testament to the power of collaboration and the strength of our community here at Speakeasy Therapy. 🌟

✨ Today’s hand–eye coordination activity became so much more than just a game! ✨

One of our young people was invited to join in a simple bat-and-ball task using a balloon. At first, he felt very anxious, balloons had always been a big fear for him. 🎈

With gentle co-regulation and supportive conversation, his OT helped him explore his worries and think through “what’s the worst that could happen?” Step by step, his confidence grew 💪.

✅ First, he agreed to watch the balloon being blown up.
✅ Then, he bravely held it himself.
✅ Soon after, he was batting it back and forth with his hand.
✅ By the end, he was using a bat and smiling while he did it!

🌟 He rated his anxiety at the start as 8/10, and by the end it was just 2/10.

This is such a powerful reminder that OT isn’t just about activities it’s about meeting young people where they are, supporting them to face challenges, and celebrating every win along the way. 💛

A powerful reminder that therapy doesn’t need to follow a straight line. With our SALT, Lauren, one of our young people achieved something incredible last week, heading out into the community to work on self-esteem and executive functioning through a boxing session! 🥊

It was amazing to see his anxieties ease and his confidence grow as he engaged in something he truly enjoyed. Although he experiences PDA challenges, this showed just how transformative therapy can be when it embraces special interests and allows space for trust and flexibility. ✨ A true superstar!

🚂 Exploring Autism Through a Train-Lover’s Lens! 🧠

This vibrant mind map was created during a recent SALT session with one amazing student. The student, who loves trains, designed the branches as train tracks – a fantastic way to make the session both meaningful and engaging!

During the session, they explored their diagnosis, discussed what their brain finds easy or tricky, and began to ask important questions. This mind map is just the starting point, and the therapist is excited to continue adding to it as they learn and grow together.

💬 Investing in What Matters Most – Safety, Connection & Understanding

Last week, two of our Occupational Therapists, Sarah and Meg, attended a 2-day Trauma-Informed Training with the amazing Tracey Murnan Stackhouse and Kelsey Forbringer.

At Speakeasy, we know that a trauma-informed approach is essential. For many of the children and families we support, understanding trauma and how it shows up in everyday life is key to building trust, healing, and growth.

This training was part of our ongoing commitment to prioritising safety, connection, and compassion – the true foundations of meaningful therapeutic support.

We’re excited to bring this knowledge back to our team and continue showing up in the ways that matter most. 💙
