Another great tip from The Autism Education Trust - AET for all settings having Christmas Lunch.

Another great tip from The Autism Education Trust - AET for all settings having Christmas Lunch.

Christmas lunch is a welcome change on the school canteen menu but is likely to come with different foods and unusual cooking smells.

Many autistic children may prefer to stick to familiar foods they know and like.

If your school is planning a festive lunch this week, we suggest these two simple tips to make the experience more enjoyable for everyone!

✅Ensure that your autistic pupils know in advance that they need to bring in their own meal/pack lunch.
✅ Offer the option to eat in another space, away from the canteen.

For more information, advice and training on autism take a look at our website.

Good tips ahead of the festive season.

Let’s make sure everyone enjoys this festive season!

As excitement builds in the run-up to the festive season, changes to the familiar school environment, timetable and sensory stimulation can be overwhelming for many autistic children and young people.

Spontaneous and festive activities that might be exciting for non-autistic pupils can create anxiety and stress for your autistic learners, which can result in overwhelm leading to autistic meltdown or shutdown.

Our easy read 10-point checklist can help guide you to make those all-important environmental adjustments.

Share our festive tips with your colleagues and let's create inclusive environments that all autistic learners can enjoy.
