World Humanitarian Day takes place annually on 19 August, to honour humanitarian workers and promote awareness of humanitarian efforts globally.

As conflicts become more intense, complex and protracted globally, attacks on humanitarians, civilians, civilian infrastructure and health care that is health facilities, health workers, infrastructure, transportation and related services have become increasingly common, often in clear violation of international laws.   

Since the beginning of 2024, WHO has verified over 700 attacks on health care across 13 countries and territories. 

Attacks on health care are a violation of international humanitarian law.  

Health workers, patients, health facilities and supplies must never be attacked and must be actively protected by all parties to a conflict.  

Our message for this year’s World Humanitarian Day is to stop the normalization of attacks on humanitarians, prevent civilian suffering and end impunity under international humanitarian law and other international agreements.

In 2025, the theme is “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems” – a call to action to build lasting, equitable support for breastfeeding mothers everywhere. This week is more than a health campaign; it’s a global movement to invest in the future of children, families, and the planet.

World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is an annual global campaign coordinated by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF. Since its inception in 1991, WBW has aimed to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding worldwide. Coordinated by patient organizations like the National Psoriasis Foundation, the month invites us all to look beyond the surface and recognize the complexity of this autoimmune disease.

Psoriasis Awareness Month is an annual observance dedicated to raising public understanding of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis two chronic, autoimmune conditions that affect nearly 8 million people in the United States alone. Psoriasis causes the immune system to speed up the life cycle of skin cells, resulting in red, scaly patches that can appear anywhere on the body. Psoriatic arthritis adds joint pain, stiffness, and swelling into the mix.

National Schizophrenia Awareness Day - JULY 25 is a UK-based awareness campaign spearheaded by Rethink Mental Illness, a leading mental health charity. The aim of the day is to challenge myths and misconceptions about schizophrenia, while providing accurate information to the public about what the condition is and what it is not.

Schizophrenia affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves. Symptoms may include hallucinations, delusions, disorganised thinking, and emotional withdrawal. Although often portrayed negatively in the media, schizophrenia is a treatable condition, and many people living with it can lead fulfilling lives with the right support and treatment.

This awareness day helps elevate the voices of those with lived experience, supports carers and families, and encourages open conversations about mental health and the realities of living with schizophrenia.
