This IS community and connection 💛

We were once ten strangers, blokes with the weight of the world on our backs. Each of us with our own stories of grief, depression, loneliness, su***de attempts, hopelessness and the rest. Meeting each other, walking shoulder to shoulder, talking and listening has lightened that load. We are blokes who have taken back our lives and become part of a community who's got our back when we have a wobble....the tough days will always happen, but now we can better handle them.

So fellas don't give up on yourself. Get out there, seek help if you need it, join that club, take up that hobby, speak to that person, find your local walk and talk. Through those actions your life will become different in ways you wouldn't believe...it's down to you to take that first step.

Change is possible, these fellas 👆🏼are proof of that.

Keep Powering On 💛

"The Start of the First Derby – 4th May 1780" From this very spot on Epsom Downs, history was made. It marked the beginning of a tradition built on strength, endurance, and spirit.

Every journey has a starting point just like that first Derby. For many blokes, taking the first step toward talking about mental health can feel like the toughest hurdle, but here, on these same Downs, we're creating a new tradition..walking, talking, and supporting each other together.

With the backing of the incredible Epsom horse racing community, we remind each other that no race is run alone. There's strength in showing up, and there's healing in being heard.

Step forward, start your own race to wellness, join us!

There’s power in surrounding yourself with the right people for you 🌟👊🏼

When you’re around blokes who push you to be better, who back you, challenge you, and lift you up you start thinking bigger, moving with more purpose, and growing faster.
You feel heard. You feel seen. You feel supported.

On the flip side, negative, unsupportive, or complacent people can drag you down ... sometimes without you even realising. Bit by bit, your confidence can take a hit, and you can start feeling like you’re not enough.

The people around you either lift you up or pull you back.
Be careful about who you let into your circle. Protect your energy by finding your people!

Back yourself and build your crew ⚡

WPO on tour! Well, sort of...deep in Exmoor visiting my father-in-law. My mother-in-law passed away almost 10 years ago, and the sense of loneliness he experiences daily is crushing even all these years on.

Thankfully, his local community is alive with activities that help fill the void - table tennis club, bowls, skittles, pub quiz teams, coach trips, craft clubs and volunteer gigs all help to tackle loneliness in the area.

Rural loneliness is a significant issue that affects many people living in our countryside. It can have a profound impact on mental health and well-being, and it’s important that we work together to support those who may be feeling isolated.

One brilliant example just 5 miles down the road in Minehead is talking, who host Monday evening walks for men needing to get out, feel less alone, and connect with others going through similar challenges.

Check out our brothers at for more details about the numerous walks they facilitate across the country.

Keep powering on!

I first met Ivan Lyons at the Make a Difference Awards last year, where he won the Community Award. Our paths crossed again when we both met with local MP Helen McGuire to discuss our initiatives to support mental health in our local communities.

Ivan’s journey is both inspiring and heartbreaking. In 2020, his son Joe Lyons a successful, award-winning radio producer tragically took his own life after struggling during the lockdown period. Joe was a senior producer at Capital FM and played a key role in launching the Roman Kemp Breakfast Show, where he and Roman Kemp became close friends.

Determined to create a lasting legacy for Joe, Ivan, along with his wife and daughter, founded Joe’s Buddy Line, a charity based up the road in Leatherhead. The organisation works to promote mental health awareness and support, particularly among young people.

Joe’s Buddy Line focuses on creating a whole-school approach to mental health, providing free resources tailored to the specific needs of individual schools. These include innovative tools such as the Buddy Board, the Buddy Box, and a range of book resources, all designed to give children immediate information, advice, and support.

Roman Kemp, a trustee of Joe’s Buddy Line, further helped raise awareness by creating a BBC documentary about the mental health crisis facing young men in the UK.

Ivan’s dedication and strength continue to make a powerful difference in our community and beyond.

Our Glen joined Mel from Dr. Susie Bennett from ***de_research, and Dan Somers from .how for a powerful event discussing male su***de.

Together, they explored why men are at higher risk, what we can do as a society to change that and shared stories of healing and hope.

It’s encouraging to see blokes supporting blokes, opening up about the issues that hit the hardest, but I also want to give a shout out to the women out there fighting our corner.

Mel has been one of our biggest supporters. Her advocacy for men’s mental health makes a real difference bringing a fresh, fearless perspective and shining a light on the difficult topics that many shy away from.

Mel has been spurring on WPO since our very first week on the grid…back when I didn’t have a clue what I was doing and doubted whether I should even be starting a group at all...

Will this make a difference?
Do I have what it takes?
Will anyone care?
Am I just making a tit of myself in me yellow beanie? (Probably… but I’ve passed caring now that beanie has its own postcode now 😅)

Through it all, Mel’s been a constant rock. Always there with encouragement, support, and a listening ear, even when she’s been going through her own tough times...a star in the dark sky!

We see you, Mel. And we appreciate you. 💛

Struggles can affect anyone, any age, any background, any financial position, any religion...the hope is in sharing the guys messages it will give others the courage to take that first step. Putting a face on what men's mental health is really about is an important way of working towards ending the stigma associated with men and mental health...blokes struggling look like you and me, we might look different, but our commonality is the struggle.

It's the hiding behind closed doors that has put many of us blokes in positions where we feel we have nobody to lean on ... Making that decision to talk, being open to listening to others, and being honest with ourselves can be empowering, it can change lives in a massive way.

Thanks to Andrew for sharing his message of community to inspire others to get out and talk. Thanks for sharing mate 👊🙏✨

Documenting through vids and pics is important and serves a couple of purposes - Me and the lads can look back on our progress and it also puts a face on mental health...different shapes and sizes, different backgrounds, ages and socio-economic situations ... It's not one size fits all.

Privileged the fellas permit me to record our journey together and share it with you all 🙏
