World Book Day at Appleby House!

This morning our residents gathered together in the beautiful Apple Conservatory for a special World Book Day activity — imagining what their own life stories would be called if their lives were written as books.

Together we began exploring the chapters of their lives, sharing memories of family, careers, travels and the moments that have shaped them. After two whole hours we are still only on Chapter 2 out of 5, which just shows how many wonderful stories our residents have to tell!

There were heartfelt memories, fascinating life experiences, and a few rather saucy tales that had us all in fits of giggles. It was such a lovely way for residents to learn more about each other and celebrate the incredible lives they have lived.

Sometimes the best stories are the ones sitting right beside us.

Its amazing what some rays of sunshine blue skies can do! We have missed sharing pictures of our incredible Forget-Me-Not allotment, looking forward to Spring and some natural Vitamin D. The allotment went on to inspire Pat and Rosemary to paint beautiful flowers in the art studio ###

What a lovely day we are having here at Appleby House with our residents!

After a wonderful morning spent armchair travelling to China, learning about traditions and celebrations for Chinese New Year, the afternoon continued with even more joy as we welcomed the lovely Becky from Mack Entertainment.

Becky filled our home with beautiful music, including many of the love songs we all know and cherish, helping us continue our Valentine’s celebrations. The lounge was soon filled with smiles, gentle swaying, and residents singing along to the familiar melodies that bring back so many treasured memories.

It has been a day full of culture, music, companionship, and meaningful moments — the very heart of life here at Appleby House!

Appleby Airways Takes Off to China!

This morning at Appleby House, our residents enjoyed a wonderful armchair journey to China as we celebrated the traditions of Chinese New Year.

Residents discovered their Chinese zodiac animal and learned about the personality traits linked to their year of birth, with lots of smiles as everyone compared their animals. The experience was brought to life as we sampled fortune cookies, Chinese sweet delicacies, and enjoyed the gentle aroma of jasmine tea.

We explored the fascinating history of Chinese New Year and shared memories of our own New Year traditions, creating lovely moments of connection and reminiscence.

A highlight of the morning was watching an incredible 2026 street parade from China, filled with vibrant colours, beautiful costumes and spectacular dragon dances, which truly captured everyone’s imagination.

Armchair travel continues to bring meaningful moments, new discoveries, and shared experiences here at Appleby House.

❤️ Valentine’s Day at Appleby House ❤️

This afternoon our home was wrapped in melody and warmth as we celebrated Valentine’s Day together.
The delightful Claire Ritchie from Mack Entertainment filled the lounge with song, gentle love tunes drifting through the ai with hands clapping, and voices happily joining in.
From heartfelt love songs to the sunshine harmonies of the Beach Boys and the sparkling joy of ABBA, familiar classics carried smiles from face to face and memories from heart to heart.
Moments like these remind us that music connects us lifting spirits, stirring memories, and bringing people together in the most beautiful way.

Thank you, Claire, for an afternoon filled with happiness, laughter, and love!

Fun, laughter and music at Appleby House!

Appleby residents enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon with a wonderful visit from the Songs on Wheels ensemble, led by the very talented and effervescent Libby.
With a Valentine’s theme running throughout, residents were treated to a variety of songs from lively toe-tappers to gentle, heartfelt melodies, all accompanied by the hilarious costume changes that had everyone smiling and laughing along.
It was a truly joyful afternoon of music, entertainment, and shared moments. Thank you to Libby and the team for spreading the love and bringing such energy to our home!

We are pleased to introduce our monthly Chef’s Table, where a small group of residents come together to taste and review new menu ideas. These sessions give residents the chance to share their opinions and help shape future menus, with popular dishes going on to feature on the menu the following month.

Today’s Chef’s Table showcased a vegetarian Indian menu, which was met with lots of positive feedback and a definite thumbs up from residents!

A Lovely Afternoon of Friendship & Tea

After a wonderful visit to our friends at Sherwood Park Care Home, we were delighted to return the invitation by welcoming them to Appleby House for a charming vintage afternoon tea.
It was such a lovely afternoon filled with fun, laughter, and plenty of chats as we spent time getting to know one another. Moments like these remind us how special shared experiences and new friendships can be.
We’re really looking forward to continuing this friendship and many more happy times together!
