Appleby House in Epsom, Surrey, is an 'outstanding'-rated, award-winning care home offering an innovative approach to older people's care, including dementia care. Residents are supported to lead an independent, active and fulfilling life, with opportunities to enjoy hobbies, and discover new interests. Art sessions have transformed the home and led to inspirational outcomes for residents – Appleby House even has its own art gallery and studio now. The team strives to enhance the home in every way for residents. The traditional hair salon now has a nail bar and barber area, and an ice cream parlour was added to improve residents’ nutrition. Residents are encouraged to express their views and wishes, and individuality is celebrated.

Celebrating a Decade of An Evening of Music at Appleby House

Last Saturday, Appleby House hosted a truly unforgettable celebration — the 10th anniversary of our much-loved event, An Evening of Music.
Set in a beautifully decorated marquee, the evening welcomed over 250 guests who came together to enjoy live performances, dancing, and plenty of laughter. The atmosphere was magical — filled with twinkling lights, music, and friendship.
The highlight of the night was a breathtaking performance from James Schouten, who delighted us with a stunning programme of opera classics and popular hits. His voice filled the marquee and left the audience spellbound.
The entertainment continued with our fantastic DJ Darren, who had everyone singing, clapping, and dancing along to favourite tunes old and new.
This milestone event was made even more meaningful by raising funds for two incredible causes:

💙 Love Me, Love My Mind – a local Epsom charity supporting wellbeing and community connections
🎵 Musical Memories – helping keep the joy of music alive

The Gala Women’s Institute – Growing Together

The Gala Women’s Institute continues to go from strength to strength, with weekly meetings bringing our ladies together for conversation, creativity, and plenty of laughter. Each member has their own special membership card, and with Pat as our Secretary, we’re keeping a wonderful record of all our gatherings.

Recently, we enjoyed a delightful poetry session, where we listened to famous poems and even created some of our own. Looking ahead, we’re excited to explore new activities together, including flower arranging, card making, and preparing Christmas gift boxes for a local children’s charity. 🎁

The Gala Women’s Institute is already proving to be a very special part of life at Appleby House – a place where friendships bloom and ideas come to life. 💐✨

And documentaries to see us through.

🎶✨ “Elvis has not left the building… he lives on in our hearts!” ✨🎶

On Friday, our Appleby family gathered for a special BBQ in honor of the King of Rock ’n’ Roll, Elvis Presley, marking the 48th anniversary of his passing. 💙👑

Back by popular demand, we were thrilled to welcome entertainer Johnny Quatro, who brought Elvis’ greatest hits to life with his amazing tribute performance. From “Can’t Help Falling in Love” to “Jailhouse Rock,” he had our residents singing, smiling, and dancing right along. 🎤🎸

It was a wonderful afternoon of remembrance, great food, and unforgettable music — because here, we’re all shook up when it comes to celebrating the King!

Thank you to everyone who joined us in keeping Elvis’ memory alive. 💫 Long live the music, the joy, and the legend of Elvis Presley.

Seated dancing is a fun and accessible way for people of all abilities to get moving and enjoy the benefits of dance. It’s an excellent form of exercise that can be done while seated, making it ideal for those with limited mobility or anyone looking for a low-impact workout.The benefits of chair dancing include improved cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, coordination and enhanced cognitive function.
Our lifestyle coordinator Debbie, having a dance and theatre background, brings her fun and upbeat Dancercise sessions to Appleby that include aspects of Ballet, Tap, Charleston, Country, The Waltz and The Hand Jive to our residents. Debbie says “ Dancercise is a fun and delightful way for us all to stay active and connected whilst being a wonderful way to reminisce special dance hall memories and music of times gone by.”

Pets help those with dementia stay calm and feel relaxed. The actual act of petting or stroking an animal can bring peace and comfort. We at Appleby encourage as many pet visits as possible and it’s such a joy to see the delight in our residents faces when animals visit!
BROWELLS WOOD PET THERAPY visited us on Tuesday with an assortment of cute and cuddly animals including a kitten, puppy, rabbit, guinea pig, chickens and the main attraction was Kevin the pony! Kevin was so friendly and not only visited the main lounge but also lots of residents in bedrooms! Such a lovely afternoon!

We celebrated Pride month at Appleby House with a party to promote the inclusivity of our Home.
We decorated our Home with rainbow balloons and flags, our amazing Chef Maya made a beautiful cake and our residents enjoyed the colourful celebrations. We were pleased to welcome The Mayor for Epsom and Ewell. councilor Robert Leach and entertainment was courtesy of the outrageously talented and hilarious Terry Gleed. Our team at Appleby are very are proud to support inclusivity!
