Spooktacular Fun at Appleby House!

What a fang-tastic week it’s been here at Appleby House! Our home was truly boo-tifully transformed for Halloween — full of laughter, pumpkins, and a few cheeky tricks (and plenty of treats!).

As always, we held our Pumpkin Carving Competition, where each suite’s carers and residents teamed up to create their spookiest designs. Our spooktacular entertainer, Richard Harvey, had the tricky (and terrifyingly tough!) job of judging the pumpkins — but after much howl-arious deliberation, the winners were Picasso Suite with their pirate-themed pumpkin, “Pirate Picasso”, and the runners-up were the Lifestyle Team with their hilarious Elvis-inspired creation, “Hellvis!”

On Thursday, the Trick or Treat Trolley rolled through our corridors, delighting residents with terrifyingly tasty cakes and boo-tiful biscuits, freshly baked by our fangtastic restaurant team.

From howlingly good music and ghoulish giggles to mummy-wrapped mischief and pumpkin-powered fun, our Halloween celebrations were to die for!

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this Halloween a real scream!

A Wonderful Afternoon with Kevin Jay!
What a treat! We were thrilled to welcome Kevin Jay from Mack Entertainment for a brilliant performance that filled Appleby House with music, laughter and smiles. Our residents were so thankful, enjoying an afternoon full of plenty of singing, clapping and happy memories all round!

🎶 Music, Memories & Laughter at Appleby House! 🎶
This afternoon, Debbie and our lovely residents gathered around an old record player and took a wonderful trip down memory lane. 📻✨

We sorted through stacks of vinyl records, sharing stories of the very first records we ever bought and reminiscing about our favourite songs. There were music requests flying in from every corner — and of course, plenty of singing to go with them! 🎤💃

It was such a joy to see how music brings us together. The smiles, the toe-tapping, the laughter… it reminded us just how important music is in all of our lives.

Here’s to many more musical afternoons! ❤️🎵

The Forget Me Not Allotment that just keeps on giving ### We are very thankful to our Love Me Love My Mind volunteers who keep the allotment alive and vibrant.
This week LMLMM have been busy with a full programme to mark Mental Health Week. Did you know that just 10 minutes a day in a garden or green space can improve depression, sleep and mood. It can reduce stress and anxiety, boost mood, improve self esteem through a sense of accomplishment and responsibility.
The allotment has become a social hub and a very special place at Appleby House ###

World Alzheimer’s Day at Appleby House

This week Appleby House marked World Alzheimer’s Day with a vintage tea party for residents, families, and staff. The occasion provided an opportunity not only to enjoy afternoon tea together, but also to reflect on the importance of raising awareness and understanding of Alzheimer’s.It was a warm and meaningful gathering that highlighted the value of community and togetherness in supporting those living with Alzheimer’s and their loved ones.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the families who joined us, whose presence and support made the day all the more special. We are also deeply grateful to our staff for their assistance in arranging and hosting the tea party, ensuring it was such a memorable occasion.
At Appleby House, we remain committed to creating a supportive and compassionate environment where every day offers moments of connection, dignity, and joy.

A very special visit at Appleby House!

We were delighted to welcome Chelsea Academy goalkeeper Max Merrick, who came to visit our resident John Wall. John proudly played for many football teams, including Chelsea’s Academy between 1954 and 1955, and he treasures his memories with the Blues.
Max’s visit brought those memories back to life, sparking stories, smiles, and a real sense of pride. He even came with gifts, autographs, scarves, flags – everything a Chelsea fan could wish for!
At Appleby House, we love making wishes come true and creating meaningful moments for our residents. With special thanks to Shelly, one of our wonderful carers, for helping make this day possible.
