Do your research ladies

You cannot learn hair extensions by watching a youtube tutorial.

Once qualified in the art of hair extensions, the skill is then developed through practice and experience. The art of installing hair extensions is complex with lots of variables that could cause damage to the natural hair, if not installed correctly. So itโ€™s important that you find a skilled hair extensionist who has your natural hair as their main priority.

Installing incorrectly can cause devastating results, which can cause permanent irreversible hair damage too.

Donโ€™t be shy to ask to see their qualifications, reviews and past work history too.

We love this transformation showing when curls are brushed out.

Before brushing, the curls are all tight and defined, giving a more structured look. But after brushing, the curls loosen up and become softer, creating a more relaxed and voluminous hairstyle. Itโ€™s like going from a neat and tidy look to a free-flowing, carefree vibe.

Itโ€™s such a fun way to switch up your curly hair! ๐Ÿ˜„๐ŸŒ€

Letโ€™s dive into the world of scalp conditions, specifically psoriasis, and why maintaining a clean and healthy scalp is crucial for promoting hair growth.

Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune condition that affects the skin, including the scalp. When psoriasis affects the scalp, it can lead to red, scaly patches, itching, and even hair loss in some cases. Itโ€™s not only uncomfortable but can also impact our self-confidence.

Having a clean and healthy scalp is essential for hair growth because it creates an optimal environment for the hair follicles to thrive. When the scalp is burdened with psoriasis or other scalp conditions, it can disrupt the hair growth cycle and impede the natural process of hair regrowth.

Maintaining a clean scalp helps to remove excess oil, dead skin cells, and any build-up that can clog hair follicles. By doing so, it allows the hair follicles to breathe and receive the necessary nutrients and oxygen for healthy hair growth. A clean scalp also helps to prevent bacterial or fungal infections, which can further exacerbate scalp conditions and hinder hair growth.

To keep your scalp clean and healthy, itโ€™s important to establish a proper hair care routine. Gently shampooing your hair with products specifically designed for scalp conditions like psoriasis can help remove scales and soothe the scalp. Avoiding harsh shampoos or excessive use of heat styling tools is also beneficial.

If youโ€™re experiencing severe psoriasis or scalp conditions that are causing significant hair loss or discomfort, itโ€™s best to consult with a dermatologist or healthcare professional such as our hair loss specialists at Godiva. We can provide personalised advice, recommend specific treatments, or prescribe medicated shampoos or topical medications to manage the condition effectively.

Remember, a clean and healthy scalp is the foundation for promoting hair growth. Take care of your scalp, embrace your unique beauty, and let your hair shine with confidence! ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ’†โ€โ™€๏ธโœจ

Godiva lace frontal wig custom made for this beautiful lady who is currently undergoing 15 cycles of chemotherapy treatment.

Chemotherapy can have a significant impact on your hair due to the way it targets rapidly dividing cells in the body. While its primary goal is to kill cancer cells, chemotherapy also affects other rapidly dividing cells, including those in hair follicles. Hereโ€™s how chemotherapy can affect your hair:

1. Hair Loss (Alopecia)

โ€ข Mechanism: Chemotherapy drugs disrupt the growth cycle of hair follicles, leading to hair loss. This can happen to scalp hair and, in some cases, body hair (eyebrows, eyelashes, and body hair).
โ€ข Timing: Hair loss usually begins 2โ€“4 weeks after starting treatment and may continue throughout chemotherapy.
โ€ข Extent: The extent of hair loss depends on the type and dose of chemotherapy drugs. Some drugs cause complete hair loss, while others may lead to thinning.

2. Hair Thinning

โ€ข Some chemotherapy drugs may not cause complete hair loss but result in noticeable thinning of the hair.

3. Changes in Hair Texture or Color

โ€ข When hair grows back after treatment, it may have a different texture (e.g., curly instead of straight) or color (e.g., gray or darker). This is often temporary.

4. Delayed Hair Regrowth

โ€ข Hair typically begins to grow back a few weeks to months after chemotherapy ends, but full regrowth may take 6โ€“12 months or longer.

Coping with Hair Changes

โ€ข Scalp Care: Use gentle shampoos and avoid harsh treatments (e.g., dyeing or perming).
โ€ข Cold Caps: Scalp cooling caps may help reduce hair loss by constricting blood vessels in the scalp during chemotherapy.
โ€ข Protective Measures: Wear hats, scarves, or wigs to protect your scalp and boost confidence.
โ€ข Support: Many people find support groups helpful for coping with hair loss.

If youโ€™re undergoing chemotherapy or planning for it, discuss your specific treatment plan with your oncologist to better understand how it might affect your hair.

Last week I had a consultation with a beautiful 65 year old lady.

She was aware that her hairline had started to recede but was embracing this gracefully and used her hair from the sides and back to create coverage.

She loves to socialise and meet her friends. During the Christmas season a comment from a friend truly upset her and she stopped socialising.

The friend said to her in front of others โ€˜whatโ€™s happened to your hair you used to have such lovely hairโ€™.

The moral here is please be kind, women should be empowering each other with support. Hair loss can affect anyone at any age and until you experience it you really have no idea how it can strip away your confidence, femininity, social outlook to name but a few.

This lady will be having a custom made grey/ash topper made to enhance her beauty and to build back her social confidence.

Alopecia Ophiasis is a specific pattern of hair loss that affects the scalp. It is a subtype of Alopecia Areata, which is an autoimmune condition that causes hair loss in patches.

With Alopecia Ophiasis, the hair loss typically starts at the back of the scalp, near the nape of the neck, and spreads in a band-like pattern towards the sides and temples of the head. The name โ€œOphiasisโ€ comes from the Greek word for โ€œsnake,โ€ as the hair loss pattern resembles the shape of a snake winding around the head.

This type of hair loss can be quite challenging, as it often results in significant hair loss in the affected areas. It can cause emotional distress and impact oneโ€™s self-esteem. However, itโ€™s important to remember that you are not alone in this journey, and there are support systems and treatments available to help manage and cope with Alopecia Ophiasis.

Treatment options for Alopecia Ophiasis can vary depending on the individual and the severity of the condition. Some common approaches include topical corticosteroids, minoxidil, and other topical immunotherapies. In more severe cases, systemic treatments such as oral corticosteroids or immunosuppressants may be prescribed. Additionally, there are non-medical options like hairpieces, wigs, and other hair styling techniques that can help camouflage the hair loss and provide a boost of confidence.

Come and chat with us as we specialise in hair loss and can help you determine the best course of action for your specific situation. We can provide personalised advice and guidance tailored to your needs.

Remember, you are more than your hair, and there is a supportive community out there ready to lift you up. Stay strong, stay positive, and know that you have the power to embrace your unique beauty, no matter what. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’•
