Clarification Regarding My Closure

It has come to my attention that there are some rumours or assumptions suggesting that my recent closure is only temporary and that I may be returning in the near future. I want to take a moment to clarify that this is not the case.

Recent events have only reinforced my decision to step away from the industry. While these incidents represent a small portion of the overall experience, they have been significant enough to confirm that moving on is the right path for me.

I hope this clears up any confusion and helps put to rest any false expectations. That said, I’m genuinely grateful for those who have expressed hope for a return β€” your support means a great deal.

Wishing you all a great weekend.

Absolutely thrilled with a message received this morning. Young Reuben first came to see me in 22/23. He was playing at junior level for Sheffield Wednesday, but was struggling to play through only parts of matches with knee pain.

At that level of the game, it’s so cut throat and not many make it through the age groups to the top level. It doesn’t take much to be released by clubs. It is therefore crucial that they are playing so that their ability is noticed and continually assessed.

It was amazing to be part of this journey and I was delighted that we got Reuben assessed, giving him important rehab to do and appropriately manage his condition, to then be back on the pitch and completing full games.

To receive news this morning that Reuben has now signed a contract at Sheffield Wednesday as a first year scholar to play at Under 18 level, fills me with absolute pride and joy for Reuben and his family. It is such a time and financial commitment by families to travel around the country to get their kids to matches, so I am so delighted for them too. A hugely proud moment for them. His Mum, Stella has kept me posted with photos and reports of his progress, which I was always very grateful for. It was amazing to hear news that initially he was getting through a good amount of minutes pain free and then through full matches and progressing well.

Reuben is such a quiet, polite, well mannered young man. A credit to his family. A pleasure to work with. So delighted for him to reach this level, and look forward to his continued development. Sad that I won’t be playing a therapy part in his journey now, but hope to now be able to go see him playing in the near future. Well done Reuben. πŸ”΅πŸ”΅βšͺ️βšͺ️ πŸ₯³πŸΎ ⚽️

All clients need to be aware of RED-S (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport). When energy intake doesn’t match expenditure it can have more serious detrimental effects on the body, affecting organ systems and other detrimental physiological effects.

Importantly for runners it can result in increased risk of injury, especially in relation to bone related issues, with increased risk of stress fractures and affecting bone density.

Always ensure proper fuelling for your sport and make yourselves aware of the importance of avoiding LEA and RED-S.

Just to advise that subject to cancellations, my diary is now FULL right up to closure on 24 May. Still receiving enquiries from new people, so although I’ve always been massively grateful for referrals from you all, I no longer have availability for them.

Obviously I have provided a list of good therapists that you can access going forward.

Thank you for your ongoing support. πŸ™‚

You never get tired of clients taking time out of their day to get in touch and give feedback. Especially when they come into clinic in a bit of a state! πŸ™ obviously feels a bit more meaningful now.

Being able to make a difference for people is certainly something I’ll miss! It’ll be a huge void but there will be others who will serve you all well.

Hi all,

Just testing the water here to gauge opinions. No planned changes to any decisions.

I have quite understandably been in discussions with many clients over the past month regarding my decision and my plans for the future. It is very kind of people to have tried to help and made suggestions about possible options.

One discussion last week involved a client trying to put across a strong case about me continuing in some format. The argument to justify this was that he would still be very happy to purely come to see me if he had a ni**le or injury, for me to assess it and then advise on rehabilitation….he is not bothered about getting any sports massage or soft tissue work. He would still be very happy to pay for a session purely for that service.

Over the years (sorry physio’s, obviously not my opinion, just stating other people’s words) I’ve had many people walk through my door, wanting treatment, because β€œthey’ve been to the physio, it was useless because they didn’t touch me and they just gave me a sheet of exercises to do” I asked if they did the exercises, to which they replied β€œno”. I of course explained to those people that I’m not Jesus, I can’t cure them with my hands, and they will get exercises to do from me too, which are a very important element to the overall recovery and needed to be done!

I am no longer in a position to do sports massage and soft tissue work long term. My hands have improved significantly since taking turmeric tablets in the last month (a bit of free promotion for Nutrition Geeks), but the writing is on the wall.

I would just like to hear if opinions are shared with my client. How many people on this page would still be happy to visit based on purely assessment and injury advice and exercise rehabilitation prescription?

I would have no interest in employing a sports massage therapist to fill the void, due to the hassles involved with it and Governments killing small businesses with the pension and NI funding issues. There could be an option of a partnership agreement with a local sports massage therapist to cover all possible treatment options, which of course would be mutually beneficial.

Please do not read too much into this. I’m playing devil’s advocate to judge opinions on the arm twisting that has been applied. The client was obviously trying to put his best case forward to still get a treatment service from me and also trying to be helpful regarding possible options. The truth is that the physical elements of the job are a big part of my decision, but not the only part of the reasoning for the decision to close. Obviously only a section of my client base are on here but feedback would be appreciated, just to gauge what other people think. Totally brutally honest answers please. Saying you would be happy to do that but not actually wanting to do that is obviously not helpful πŸ˜‚

Thank you 😊
