Irina joined us last week, helping out with social media and wanted to share a lovely moment from an arts and crafts group she attends.

She said: “Me and my friend go to arts and crafts on Monday and she got a certificate for her hard work. We always enjoy it and make lots of great stuff.”

It’s wonderful to hear how much she enjoys the group and to see the pride in receiving a certificate for all her hard work. A big thank you to John, one of our Support Workers, for taking the photo and helping capture the moment.

As part of our Autism Awareness Series, we’ve been chatting to colleagues across Lisieux Trust about what it’s like working in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Did you know nearly one in three neurodivergent employees say they’re not satisfied with the support they receive at work? It’s a reminder that there’s always more we can do.

Charlotte, one of our Registered Managers, shares her own experience of neurodivergence and her thoughts on how workplaces can be even more inclusive.

A simple trip out, but a really enjoyable one 😊

Recently, Steven and Simon headed into Sutton with Support Worker Rob for a lunch outing – and it looks like they made some great choices! From a nice coffee stop to classic fish and chips, everything looked pretty tasty.

It’s always great to see people we support getting out and about, enjoying good food and good company 🍽️

🏏 While the County Championship enters its third round of matches, there was some cricketing action much closer to home recently!

At one of our houses, Support Worker Abi organised a friendly game, bringing together Nick, Jack and Ade for a brilliant match full of energy and smiles.

A big shoutout to Amii, who captured all the best moments from behind the camera 📸

It’s safe to say… there may be some future stars in the making! 🌟

Earlier this week, you saw Karen sharing her love of cooking as part of our Autism Awareness Month series – and here’s the proof! 👩‍🍳

With support from Trust staff member Elizabeth, Karen made a brilliant bread and butter pudding. And the verdict from her housemates? Absolutely delicious! 😋

It’s great to see people doing what they love and building skills in a way that works for them 💙

It was truly the end of an era at the Trust today as we said goodbye to Jo, our Head of HR and Admin, after an incredible 20 years 💙

There were two lovely celebrations to mark the occasion. First, staff, tenants and residents came together at Head Office to enjoy tea and cake and share their thanks. Later, Senior Management and the Admin team continued the celebrations with a meal out.

Jo has been a huge part of the Trust for two decades, and her impact will be felt for years to come. Thank you for everything, Jo – you’ll be greatly missed, and we wish you all the very best for the future ✨

It’s National High Five Day today (bet you didn’t have that in your calendar! 🙌)

Thanks to the brilliant team and tenants in one of our houses, now you do! Here’s Michael, Amy, another of the tenants, and Gary (Senior Support Worker) showing us exactly how it’s done, over the course of five pictures (see what we did there?)

Big thanks as well to Deputy Manager Emma for capturing the moment 📸

Yesterday, we were pleased to once again welcome Amy Coombs and Jamie Perry from Birmingham City Council’s Public Health Programme as part of their ongoing housing research.

Following their earlier visit with families in February, these sessions brought together our Senior Management Team, staff, and residents and tenants from across the Trust to share their experiences and insights.

We’re proud to support this important work and ensure the voices of the people we support are heard.

Lisieux Trust’s Story

Lisieux Trust was established in 1984, with an initial aim of providing residential care for people with learning disabilities in Sutton Coldfield. One of the founding members discovered, through conversation with local people, that there was very little provision for people with learning disabilities within the Sutton Borough. A group of local volunteers came together who would go on to be the Board of Trustees for Lisieux Trust. Through vigorous fundraising efforts and support from local organisations, the Trustees decided to obtain registered charitable status in 1986. Upon acquiring this, they approached a local housing association for support.

The housing association purchased a derelict house, situated within Sutton Coldfield, and obtained a grant for refurbishment work. Local fundraising efforts were then called upon to fully furnish and equip the home.

In September 1986, Lisieux House opened its doors to six people with learning disabilities. In the beginning, the residents were supported by volunteers who lived in the property. Over the years, Lisieux House continuously looked for ways to improve the support they offered and started to employ professional, paid staff to provide support to the residents at Lisieux House.

Lisieux House proceeded to build itself a favourable reputation as a flagship for high quality provision of residential care for people with learning disabilities. On this foundation, the Trust flourished and was able to open a second residential home, known as Francis House, in 1994. Again, the housing association provided support for this, acquiring land in Boldmere and building a nine-bedroom house. Six people moved into Francis House, and staff were recruited to work at the home. Over the intervening years, the occupancy of Francis House has increased to nine.
