Sepsis is a potentially life-threatening condition, triggered by infection. It’s hard to spot, but it kills at least 44,000 people a year in the UK.

It can be easy to treat if caught early. is when the body’s response to infection injures its own tissues and organs. Sepsis is a life-threatening condition arising when the body' abnormal, or 'dysregulated', immune response to an infection causes organs to begin to fail.

Sepsis can be triggered by any infection, but most commonly occurs in response to bacterial infections of the lungs, urinary tract, abdominal organs or skin and soft tissues.

Sepsis symptoms in children under five
Go straight to A&E or call 999 if your child has any of these symptoms:
looks mottled, bluish or pale
is very lethargic or difficult to wake
feels abnormally cold to touch
is breathing very fast
has a rash that does not fade when you press it
has a fit or convulsion

Sepsis symptoms in older children and adults
Early symptoms of sepsis may include:
a high temperature (fever) or low body temperature
chills and shivering
a fast heartbeat
fast breathing

Seek medical advice urgently from if you've recently had an infection or injury and you have possible early signs of sepsis.

Caught early, outcomes are excellent.

Absolutely incredible, wonderful news - Glasgow has become the first city in the UK to make CPR training mandatory in all secondary schools. The initiative will lead to around 4,500 new potential life-savers every year. http://bit.ly/2JIigtq
