The residents of Pilgrim Gardens were invited to donate a food item to celebrate the harvest. Quite a response I'm sure you will agree. The good will go to a local charity

August has been another busy month at Pilgrim Gardens with a number of residents going away on holiday with friends and relatives and others just enjoying the good weather in our beautiful grounds. I took advantage of the better weather and had a couple of weeks leave with my family and 3 dogs in Suffolk. Sadly we got the worst of the weather with almost constant low lying cloud but at least it was dry. I can't say it was relaxing with the 3 dogs but it was a change of scenery and a nice break. Prior to my leave we had a devotions which included communion led by one of our local church leaders and it was a lovely time reflecting on what the lord has done, particularly for those who struggle to get out to church. I also had a visit from our CEO who encouraged and challenged me in being salt and light in the area around the scheme. We would value your prayers. I had the privilege the other day attending the 100th birthday of one of the Evington Home residents, Margaret Banks. Although her mobility has reduced her memory recall certainly has not as she recalled her childhood and service for the Lord. An example to us all.

Another good month at Pilgrim Gardens. Every other week the residents meet up for sing for joy an hour of singing hymns so excellently led by David and Jeannie. This week it was followed by a bring and share lunch which I somehow found myself at. Thank you to all who contributed and to Jeannie who coordinated it.

We followed on the celebrations with an afternoon tea at Carey Gardens. The room was all dressed up and a lovely tea provided. We were then entertained by Glen Miller (not in person) and we entered with a sing song. Another great event thoroughly enjoyed by all. I added a little extra entertainment by dropping a cream scone down me whilst demonstrating something. Everybody had a laugh at me expense and no lasting damage to the catpet. Thank you to all who contributed

The 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe gave the country the opportunity to remember and celebrate the huge sacrifice of so many during the second world war. We at Pilgrims Friend Society were no different. We stated off at pilgrim Gardens with an afternoon tea where the ladies and probably the odd chap provided at a very low cost a wonderful tea followed by a war time sing song and a suitable quiz. A great time was had by all and a big thank you to all who contributed

At Carey Gardens we held an Easter bonnet parade supper evening. We were treated to Salmon and new potatoes followed by apple pie and custard. What a great show of hats. The local historian judged the creations and well done to Hillary for winning first prize. Sadly as the housing manager I thought it unfair to steal away the prize so I withheld the temptation to participate in the competition.. well that's my excuse for not wearing a hat. A thoroughly enjoyable evening

The run up to Easter is always a busy time in church life and PFS. Here at Pilgrim Gardens we had our usual morning devotions followed by communion for the firdt time, beautifully led by our speaker Stephen. It was really appreciated and it was followed by a call to have it more often so watch this space

Life at Pilgrim Gardens

Our new-build retirement living apartment complex in Evington, Leicester, was opened in 2013. The scheme won the 2012 national HAPPI Housing Design Award. HAPPI stands for ‘Housing our Ageing Population: Panel for Innovation, and applauds the excellence of the design and the benefits to individual home-dweller.

As well as its own landscaped garden with its Japanese style outdoor seating area, each apartment has its own private winter garden. Pilgrim Gardens is next to the 44 acre Evington Park, with its abundant trees and flower beds.

Although now part of Leicester, Evington retains a village atmosphere. It has a good range of shops and within a ten-minute walk are a post office and a doctor’s surgery. Also close by are a Library, arboretum and golf course.

Wellbeing Packages are available at this site. Please ask the Housing Manager for more information.
