Gosia is parent carer to a child with visual impairment. She recently took part in the HPC programme run by LOOK - supporting families living with visual impairment. Here’s what she says, “Taking part in this course was the best decision I have ever made! It changed the way I think and reminded me how to be me again. I feel healthier and happier then ever!”

We’re delighted that it’s made such a positive difference to your life, Gosia!

We presented a workshop at the Council for Disabled ChildrenAnnual Conference on Thursday 6th February. Cara Stratford from Esteem Team Parent Carer Support Exmouth shared her experiences facilitating the programme and how it has the long term effect of reducing her work load as a parent support officer, as parents learn how to support themselves and each other.

Shona, a participant, spoke movingly about how the programme helped her change her life at a very low point. She now takes active steps to connect with others. Walking the dog with her husband and stopping for a beer, doing Wordle with her daughter, and meeting members of her local community at an exercise class have all strengthened her sense of connection and wellbeing. Just small things that cumulatively make a big difference.

Director Amanda Allard told the attendees that Healthy Parent Carers should be part of every Local Offer. Thank you Amanda; that's what we're aiming for!
