It's Baby Loss Awareness Week and we are proud to come together in remembrance of all babies and to raise awareness of the issues around pregnancy and baby loss šŸ’™šŸ©·

There are lots of ways for you to get involved in the week from wearing a pink and blue pin, sharing social media posts, joining challenges to taking part in a local event or Ribbon Display.

The week will end with the Global on Wednesday 15 October where we ask everyone to light a candle for 1 hour at 7pm in memory of our much-loved babies.

Many bereaved parents find this week helpful as it offers a safe space to talk about and remember our babies. However, the week can also be overwhelming and intense, so we encourage you to take part in a way that is right for you and take a break from social media if you need to. Keep an eye out for Ribbon displays in your local Co-operative Funeralcare branch, Funeral Director or supporting charity locations.

Together we are stronger and we are proud to turn pink and blue.

On Friday 26th September, our team at East Devon Crematorium hosted our annual Macmillan Coffee Morning. We were delighted to welcome funeral directors, arrangers, and friends of the crematorium. Together, we enjoyed homemade cakes, biscuits, and plenty of delicious coffee and tea, along with some lovely chats and laughter.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and supported this special event - we are thrilled to share that we raised £1,150.00 for Macmillan Cancer Support, which includes a generous donation from East Devon Crematorium.

East Devon Crematorium recently welcomed Sharon from Sidmouth Hospice at Home to present a cheque for £1,000, donated through the crematorium's metal recycling scheme, which supports charities in the local community.

Sidmouth Hospice at Home provides 24/7 specialist palliative nursing, enabling people with life-limiting illnesses to remain in the comfort of their own homes during their final days. The service receives no government funding and is entirely reliant on charitable donations and fundraising.

The nomination for this donation came from Tracey at Potburys Funeral Service, who praised the charity's vital work and its compassionate, round-the-clock support for patients and their families.

We're pleased to announce that East Devon Crematorium has recently upgraded the screens in our service hall.
We've installed two new 75" Sony crystal-clear displays, giving families the opportunity to share heartfelt visual tributes and create a truly personal farewell for their loved ones.

Our light and spacious service hall - with its full-length windows overlooking the peaceful grounds - continues to provide a calm and reflective setting for family and friends to gather in remembrance.

Ang Higgins from Bereavement Care, Graham Fice, and Molly Mayfield from Action East Devon, Paul Shoobridge from Shoobridge Funeral Services and Colin Dunn from East Devon Crematorium came together this week to celebrate a Ā£1,000 donation to support Action East Devon’s incredible work.

This brilliant local charity helps young people and families across East Devon with their mental health and wellbeing, and we’re so proud to support the difference they make every day.

A big thank you to Paul for nominating them through our Metals Recycling Scheme, and to everyone involved for helping make this possible.

Following the recent upgrades to facilities for bearers and funeral directors, East Devon Crematorium has now refreshed the room used by officiants prior to services.

Understanding the importance of comfort and preparedness in their role, the room has now been enhanced with a thoughtful range of items designed to support officiants just before they lead a service. The room now includes body sprays, hand gels, wipes, tissues, and even a lint roller to remove those last-minute clothing bits. Mints, a pen, and a notepad are also available to capture any final thoughts or words of comfort.

As part of our continued efforts to support everyone who works alongside us, a new noticeboard has also been introduced in the room. This will be regularly updated with information about the work we do in the local community, and updates across the wider crematorium team, offering a small insight into the care, collaboration and commitment that happens behind the scenes.

This small but meaningful update is part of East Devon Crematorium’s ongoing commitment to improving facilities for all who play a role in supporting bereaved families. By recognising the needs of internal and external team members alike, the crematorium continues to ensure that every aspect of its service is delivered to the highest standard.

We’re all one team, working together to provide the best possible care and experience for the families we serve. These improvements reflect our shared commitment to professionalism, compassion, and continuous improvement.

This July, we proudly donated £1,000 to the Axminster Memory Cafe, an inspiring local charity offering vital support to individuals living with memory problems, cognitive impairments, and mild dementia, as well as their families and carers.

The cafĆ© is more than just a place for a cuppa. It's a warm, welcoming space where people can relax, take part in activities, and enjoy meaningful conversations. Run by passionate volunteers, many with healthcare backgrounds, it’s a lifeline for so many in the local area.

The idea to support the cafƩ came from Lindsey Cryer, Treasurer of the Axminster Memory CafƩ, and was embraced by our team after a moving visit to see their amazing work firsthand.

We’re honoured to play a part in helping the cafĆ© continue its essential role in the community.

Last month, we shared the changes that have taken place in the Bearers' room, and the feedback we received truly was amazing! Because of this, we want to say a personal thank you to all of our partner Funeral Directors and Bearers.

The next time you visit and take a moment to unwind in the newly kitted out Bearers' Room, help yourself to a selection of sweet treats, with love from East Devon Crematorium.

Your hard work supports individuals through one of the hardest parts of their lives, and with that with applaud you.

East Devon Crematorium has donated Ā£1,000 to the Axminster League of Friends, helping bring the innovative Dementia Bus to this year’s Axe Vale Show.

The immersive experience gave visitors a powerful insight into what it’s like to live with dementia, building empathy and awareness through sound, sight, and sensory challenges.

A huge thank you to Julian Hussey of A G Down for championing this initiative, and to everyone who took part. We're proud to support causes that make a real difference in our community.
