MEDICAL STUDENTS FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2025/2026

We would like to make our patients aware that we will once again be supporting the University of Exeter by offering General Practice placements to Year 3 and Year 4 Medical Students.

Placements are an integral part of the students learning to become the next generation of qualified clinicians and as such, students may be present during your consultation with a GP or Advanced Nurse, asked to complete a full medical history review prior to your consultation or perform clinical checks and/or diagnostics such as phlebotomy.

We hope that you will join us in supporting them and consent to their presence in your consultation. However, if you do not wish for students to be present, please just let our Reception team know.

🌟 Welcome to the team, Dr Priskorn! 🌟

We’re delighted to introduce Dr Priskorn, who joined us in September 2025 as a Salaried GP and is already busy seeing patients.

Born in Denmark, raised in Australia, and trained in the UK, he completed his medical degree in 2017 at Peninsula College of Medicine & Dentistry (Universities of Exeter & Plymouth). He has recently finished GP training with the Royal College of General Practitioners and brings a wealth of hands-on primary care experience from across Torbay & Devon.

Dr Priskorn will be covering three days a week, working alongside Dr Anna and our other highly capable clinicians.

We’re thrilled to welcome his international background, strong academic foundation, and passion for patient care to our community. Please join us in giving him a very warm welcome!

And there’s more good news β€” following further successful recruitment, we’ll also be introducing our new Practice Nurse due to start in October in the coming weeks!

⚠️ Important Reminder: Emergency Alert Test ⚠️

A national emergency alert test will take place THIS SUNDAY on 7th September at 3pm. Phones and tablets will make a loud siren-like sound, even if they are on silent.

If you are at risk of abuse and have a hidden or second phone, please check it now and make sure it is switched off or hidden before the test.

You are not alone. If you need support, please reach out for helpπŸ’™

Stay safe. Please share this reminder to help others.

The government will be sending an emergency alert to all mobile phones this Sunday at 3 PM. If you have a hidden phone, you can turn off the alert and keep your phone silent.

Instructions on turning off the alerts are available here:

We know that this may feel worrying and overwhelming and if you need to speak to someone, we are here for you.πŸ’œπŸ§‘

We Are Moving to DrFirst

We understand that accessing GP services can sometimes be challenging. Earlier this year, we participated in the General Practice Improvement Programme (GPIP), a quality improvement initiative for general practice. Building on this work, we are introducing a new appointment system, DrFirst, from 8th September 2025, in response to feedback from our Patient Participation Group, patients, and our own experience.

Both our GPs and Advanced Nurse Practitioners will be trialling this system.

When you contact us for an appointment, you will be asked to complete a request form, either electronically or on paper. The information you provide will be reviewed by a clinician as part of a triage-based system. Based on your needs, the clinician will decide the most appropriate course of action, which may include:

A telephone appointment
A face-to-face consultation
Prescription
Referral or signposting to another local service

A member of the practice team will then contact you with the next steps. This could be the GP, Nurse Practitioner, or a member of our administration team.

DrFirst operates on a same-day triage model, so pre-booking will be limited. This model increases appointment capacity by ensuring that our GPs and Advanced Nurses see the patients who need their care most, while also reducing missed appointments and improving overall access.

In recent weeks, following the successful recruitment of both administrative and clinical staff, we have begun implementing aspects of this model, and early engagement has been positive. We hope this momentum continues to improve patient care and access.

We welcome continued feedback from our patients. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we implement this new system.

Flu Vaccination Programme 2025/2026 – Coming Soon

We will soon be inviting eligible patients to book their annual flu vaccination for the 2025/2026 season.

Subject to final confirmation and vaccine delivery, our planned start dates are:
β€’ From Saturday 20th September – Children and pregnant women
β€’ From Saturday 4th October – All other eligible groups

Please note: These dates may change and appointments are not yet open for booking.

We kindly ask that you support Cranbrook Medical Practice by booking your flu vaccination with us, rather than elsewhere. Eligible patients will receive an SMS with full booking details once appointments are available.

Thank you for your continued support,
Cranbrook Medical Practice
