I offer all female and specialist services in antenatal, postnatal, perimenopause and menopause, either as 1-1 or group personal training, plus outdoor postnatal classes in heavitree and physical activity workshops. 🌟I'm hugely excited to be talking to members of the University of Exeter Wellbeing and Menopause Networks about Menopause and the huge benefits of Physical activity tomorrow.🌟

🔹For those who don't know me, my background is a paediatrician, working in the NHS for 20 years, with a huge passion and research within physical activity in children, childhood cancer and now more specifically within women's health, as part of my Female Personal Training, health and nutrition coaching business - Anna FemFitness.

🔸I train women in all stages of their lives, including pre-/postnatal, throughout the menopause transition and post menopausal, plus long term health conditions. Promoting and coaching on lifestyle medicine. Most recently specifically advocating for women in the menopausal years, interviewed by ITV News West Country and also where I work at the University of Exeter - using my wealth of medical knowledge, providing talks and a strength training class, as part of the 'gender equality week'. I continue this next week, as advertised here, supporting the Wellbeing and Menopause Networks.

🌟The sun has certainly arrived this week! ..Time to hit the park for some physical activity?!😃

🌟Hopefully we can be lucky again with the weather this year, for the 'Mum and Baby' fitness class, in Heavitree Park.🤞😃

🌟Really popular last year, these specific strength fitness classes help new mums build functional strength in order to help carry your growing baby, re-establish your core and pelvic floor.

🌟Join from 6-8 weeks post childbirth, when you've had the 'all clear for exercise' from your GP postnatal check. Just bring along a yoga mat, some water and your little one (blanket and toys can also be handy).

🌟Please don't worry if you've not done any exercise for a long time! It's a fully supportive and motivational class to start building back some strength. It's also really okay if your baby is unsettled or needs a feed, this is normal!

⭐️Super excited to be offering this FREE Peri-/Menopause Strength Training Workshop, during the ‘Gender Equality Week’ at the University of Exeter, St.Lukes Campus. ⭐️

🌟Tuesday 20th May, 2:30pm-3:30pm, Upper Hall, St Luke’s Campus🌟

It feels super important to support women, like myself, in this stage of their life, to feel physically and mentally well and able to continue to fulfill their roles at the university, whether staff or PGR students.

Physical activity, in particular targeted strength training has huge benefits on menopausal symptoms independent of HRT, most notably preventing decline and improving bone mineral density and muscular strength. As well as helping ‘brain fog’, mood changes, stress levels, weight control, sleep and reduced risk of heart attacks, strokes, breast cancer and hot sweats. This class will particularly target hips/glutes, arms, core and pelvic floor. Targeted pelvic floor exercises can help to reduce stress incontinence and prolapse risk.

If you can’t make it to the class, but would like a chat on strength training and nutrition around peri-/menopause, or pre-/postnatal, I will also be at the St Luke's (20 May) and Streatham (21 May) Meet and Greet/gender equality showcase events. Come and say hello 😊

🌟Let's celebrate!🌟

🌟Firstly the inclusion of women in more research in Sports and Exercise &...

🌟Secondly the positive findings that a 12 week low impact resistance training programme performed by women through the menopause transition demonstrated significant increases in hip strength, balance and flexibility.😃

🔸Despite the decline in s*x hormones in the menopause transition, we can adapt and build muscle. Gains in hip strength is so important in increasing bone mineral density and as a consequence, together with improving balance, a reduction of hip fractures, as we get older.

🔹Clearly having supervised home based exercises 4 x week is not always achievable or manageable for women at this stage of their life, with so many other competing demands and so it's important to recognise that a bespoke individualised programme may be required for women experiencing the menopause transition.

🔸As an experienced medical professional and female personal trainer, I provide such bespoke resistance training programmes and nutrition coaching. I would love to help more ladies experiencing this challenging time of their life.
