This week I turned 33, and so I'm taking this opportunity to celebrate this incredible woman: my Mum ❤
After 43 years in the NHS, her lifetime of service was acknowledged with a surprise invitation to ... and generously, Mum invited me to join her at the Garden Party - it's been quite the week!
The Palace staff were funny, kind, and considerate. However, I think the person who made Mum feel most honoured on our adventure to the big city was actually the army veteran we met on our train travelling up the night before…
As we unpacked our delicious treats to mark the occasion, this veteran stood and slurred "I didn't realise I was travelling in 1st class!"
I explained the cause of our celebration and he got it straight away - here was a woman who, like the countless nurses he had known, was worthy of note. He told me how special I must feel to be traveling with her, and then left us in peace to enjoy our picnic dinner.
And he’s right - Mum stood on the front lines during , holding the hands of dying people, that they would not feel so alone or fearful as they left this world.
Throughout her lifetime, my Mum has consistently chosen connection and love as part of her cure for pain.
When our time at the palace ended (after 3 hours in the pouring rain!) instead of complaining, my Mum laughed as we slipped about in the mud, the joy emanating from her to cheer up all those around us.
This amazing woman has always been the heart of our community. Mum rallied people together for all sorts of get-togethers when I was a child and has passed on her love of community to me.
This beating heart of compassion now lives on in SisterWood and will forever be an inspiration to me.
Thank you Mum 🥰
