NHS England has published the Pharmacy Quality Scheme (PQS) Antimicrobial stewardship Pharmacy First consultations Clinical Audit.
The audit is about the clinical advice and consultations provided to patients scoring FeverPAIN 0-3 on the Pharmacy First Sore Throat clinical pathway. Although the audit has been published, pharmacies should not start the audit until 1st September 2025 at the earliest.

The audit must be carried out with a minimum of 10 patients over four weeks. Continue for an eight-week period IF 10 patients are not achieved in the first 4 weeks.
Pharmacies should make a record of the start and end date of the audit as you will be required to enter this information into the MYS portal when you make your declaration. The audit should be started no later than 3rd February 2026 to allow for the maximum required eight-week data collection period.

Community Pharmacy England is gathering views to inform negotiating priorities for the 2026/27 Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF).

A new opinion poll is asking pharmacy owners about how they think funding should be allocated, what regulatory changes might help their pharmacies, and which services might be beneficial to introduce. Contractors can also share the key messages they want to give to Government and identify which issues are causing the most pressure for them right now.

This feedback is particularly important as Community Pharmacy England prepares to enter the next round of negotiations for the sector.

Findings from the survey will be discussed by the Community Pharmacy England Committee at their September meeting and used in communications with Government and the NHS. They will also contribute to ongoing efforts to push for further improvements and support for community pharmacies.

Community Pharmacy Devon hopes that as many local pharmacy owners as possible can spare a little time to submit their views to feed into the national negotiator’s work.

The survey, open until 11.59pm on Monday 8th September, can be completed here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BYXRBJY

Sir Mel Stride, Member of Parliament for Central Devon and Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, recently visited Pharmaderma pharmacy to meet with staff to discuss how local pharmacies are helping to provide accessible healthcare services to the community and to see first-hand the opportunities these services create for the future.

During the visit, Mel spoke to the local community pharmacist about the challenges faced daily and learned about the value of community pharmacies in rural areas and their potential to do even more if properly supported. They discussed the community pharmacy Independent Prescriber Pathfinder Service and the positive patient feedback that has been received so far.

Sir Mel Stride was interested to hear how pharmacies are currently struggling with a range of pressures including lack of funding, medicine supply and pricing, workforce and pressures on workload. He said: “Community pharmacies like Pharmaderma are the backbone of our local healthcare system. They are at the heart of our communities, working very hard to provide an invaluable service that so many people rely on. From offering expert advice and life-saving medications to delivering vaccinations and helping manage long-term conditions, their role is essential.

“They provide vital services that help alleviate pressure on GPs and hospitals, ensuring that residents have access to expert advice and essential medications close to home. Pharmacies have immense potential to play an even greater role in healthcare delivery: supporting and building on this is key to creating an NHS that is fit for the future, moving healthcare back into communities, and preventing illness. The skill mix that community pharmacies like this bring to neighbourhoods is pivotal to the future of the NHS”
