🌟 What does “Sakya Trizin” mean? 🌟

As we continue preparing for the visit of His Holiness the 41st Sakya Trizin to Germany, we would like to explore the meaning of his title 🙏✨

✨ “Sakya” means Pale Earth, referring to the place in Tibet where the Sakya tradition began.
✨ “Trizin” means Throne Holder — one who holds and preserves the teachings of the lineage.

Together, “Sakya Trizin” is a title of deep spiritual responsibility, referring to the holder of the Sakya throne and head of the Sakya tradition 🕊️

Through this title, we can glimpse the profound role His Holiness has carried — preserving wisdom, transmitting blessings, and guiding practitioners on the path 💛

💛 We warmly invite you to join us on this journey — each week, we will share a short post to get to know him better.

💬 This is a shared space as a Sangha. If there are topics you would like us to cover, or if you would like to share something about His Holiness, we would be very happy to hear from you in the comments 🙏💫

Upstairs at Exeter Friends House, Wynards Lane, Exeter EX2 4HU Newcomers welcome! £5 per session (£3 if on benefits)
Contact: exeter@dechen.org
These classes offer an introduction to meditation and Buddhism. All classes are open to everyone and no experience is needed. There is no need to book and you can come along to as many sessions as you wish. Short talks outlining the Buddhist approach to living in the world, and its underlying philosophy for achieving happiness and contentment for ourselves and others. How does Buddhism equip us to deal with the challenges of everyday life? What is its liberating and radical take on reality ? We shall explore the answers to these two questions – and the relation between them. Each session begins with calm-abiding meditation, a platform for engaging with the teachings. The sessions are run by a long-standing student of the meditation master and scholar Lama Jampa Thaye.

A day of mind training in Exeter.
Saturday 14th March, 10.30am-4.30pm,

Mind training is at the heart of Mahayana Buddhism, shifting the focus from self to other. These practical, direct and earthy instructions show us how pivotal all beings are for transforming our ordinary everyday mind into bodhicitta, the thought of enlightenment, which wishes to achieve Buddhahood for all. In particular, they demonstrate how encountering difficult people can provide the very resource that we need to move beyond our limited perspective on our relationships with others and dissolve attachment to self. In other words, engaging with this teaching sincerely helps us to begin to remove the focus on self-cherishing and self-protection, from which all suffering originates.

The text for the day will be ‘The 8 Verses of Mind Training’ by Geshe Langri Thangpa, which contains the very essence of the teachings in eight short, memorable verses. We’ll cover the text in four one hour sessions and each session will involve sitting meditation, listening to a section of the teaching, time for reflection, and questions.

The day will be led by Miranda Moore and Rachel Deeming, both students of Lama Jampa Thaye and members of the Sakya Thinley Rinchen Ling admin team.
