Food is the Spice of life they say...
I like all types of cuisine now but growing up in the 70/80's was based around meat & 2 veg. Going regularly to a Thai restaurant in my 20's changed all that once I got used to the chilli leading to a visit to Thailand. We returned not long ago after 30+ years and the food was even better than I remembered! Thai people like many cultures base their life around food and it's rare to see anyone overweight. They eat regularly and, yes, do add sugar to their recipes but it's balanced with plenty of veg, nuts, spices and noodles or rice. In common with Eastern cultures, they also have less menopausal symptoms which has been linked to consuming phyto- oestrogens like tofu, soy milk, peanuts but are also in flax, sesame seeds, berries, grapes, apples, peaches, potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, spinach, carrots, garlic, onions. You may find you can't tolerate certain foods in perimenopause due to hormonal changes so it can be a good time to reassess your diet!
✨️Try a food swap: instead of a biscuit or cake, snack on nuts, some fruit, houmous & veg, some dark choc.
✨️Swap from white bread, pasta, rice to brown whole grains which fill us up more.
✨️Baked potatoes, lentils, couscous, beans, chickpeas, roasted veg can be part of a nutritious meal.
✨️Don't forget to use olive oil in cooking and eat oily fish & nuts for Omega 3 intake.
Food photos are my faves this year!
