Around 3–3.5 million people in the UK experience fertility challenges, affecting roughly 1 in 7 couples. Acupuncture supports preparing individuals for conception, as both male and female health are important. It can also support pregnancy and the postnatal period, where a new mother needs significant resources to produce milk and sustain her own body, while staying as stress-free as possible to aid a healthy mother and child after birth.

At Exeter Acupuncture Clinic, we see many patients with these challenges, particularly in a modern world where different contraceptive methods can sometimes affect a woman’s menstrual cycle and hormonal balance when preparing for conception and this important life stage.🙏✨

I hope everyone is enjoying spring. 🌱
In Chinese medicine we say the liver meridian is in charge of a smooth flow of qi ( our energy/ vitality) ..getting out, walking, being in nature does a lot more for us than just exercise!..it moves stagnation emotionally, mentally and physically 😎
What is the saying ...' make hay while the sun shines ' ?...
After another damp winter, I hope everyone is enjoying the sun and moving that liver Qi ....🌞

Sleep can be a real challenge for many people. Difficulty falling asleep, frequent waking, vivid or lucid dreams, restless nights, nightmares, night sweats, or even waking often to use the toilet....these are all common issues we see in clinic.

In Chinese medicine, these patterns are understood as different imbalances within the body, which is why treatment and acupuncture point selection are always tailored to the individual.

We also look closely at diet and lifestyle from a Chinese medicine perspective, as these can play a key role in improving sleep quality and restoring balance.

If this sounds familiar, you’re very welcome to visit us at the Exeter Acupuncture Project. You can book online via our website.

At the Exeter Acupuncture Project we regularly support people experiencing a wide range of conditions. These include musculoskeletal issues such as lower back pain, frozen shoulder, hip issues, sciatica and other issues such as sinusitis, migraines, perimenopausal and gynecological symptoms, neuropathy, IBS, PTSD, ADHD, sleep issues, bladder issues and many more.

Working within a multi-bed setting allows something truly special to unfold. There is a quiet strength in collective, communal treatment, where each person receives care within a calming and supportive environment. This approach also helps make treatment more accessible and cost-effective. These sessions offer more than symptom relief; they create space for the body to slow down, shift into the parasympathetic state, and deeply receive care. In a world that constantly asks us to keep going, this is an intentional pause—a chance to rest, restore, and reconnect.
Come visit us and see what it's all about ✨

Spring, the Wood Element & Gentle Detox – Chinese Medicine Wisdom 🌿

As we move into spring, we enter the season of the Wood element in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Just like trees begin to bud and grow, this is a time of renewal, movement, and fresh starts.

In TCM, spring is connected to the Liver and Gallbladder, which help keep our Qi (energy) flowing smoothly. When supported, we feel motivated, clear-headed, and inspired. When stuck, we may feel irritable, tense, or sluggish.

Instead of harsh detoxes, Chinese medicine recommends a gentle seasonal reset:

🥬 Eat more fresh, green foods – spinach, kale, watercress, broccoli, wild garlic
🍋 Add a little sour flavor – lemon in warm water, apple cider vinegar
🌱 Lighten up meals – reduce heavy, greasy foods
🌾 Choose lightly cooked foods – steaming and quick stir-fries
💧 Stay hydrated to help the body naturally cleanse

Spring is also the perfect time to:
✨ Stretch (especially hips and sides of the body)
✨ Spend time outdoors
✨ Start new projects
✨ Clear clutter – physically and emotionally

Think of this season as an opportunity to grow in the direction you want 🌸🌳
