As I closed my doors to the clinic on Wednesday last week, it marked the end of an era, one of which I have thoroughly enjoyed!

Today, I opened the doors to the new clinic and I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone for the love and support throughout this process, I appreciate every single one of you!

Blood sweat and tears have gone into the quick turn around of getting the new clinic ready for today, so I wanted to give a massive shout out to Rob Allen for his amazing DIY help and beautifully accurate straight lines, as without this, I absolutely would not be ready 🤪 🤣

I will be sending out an email later today with all details of the new address. Looking forward to seeing you all soon. ♥️

• DRY CUPPING THERAPY •

What is it?

Dry cupping is a technique used in conjunction with massage therapy. Cupping pulls the blood to a region to stimulate healing. It is effective at stretching tight fascia and muscles. Cupping helps the tissue develop new blood flow and stimulates the healing process.

How does it work?

Initially, dry cupping pulls blood into an area. The tissue becomes saturated with fresh blood whilst the vacuum pulls the stagnant blood out of the area. This is demonstrated by the hickey like appearance that is typically left behind. The mark may produce a black and blue appearance, but is rarely painful.

As new blood is is forced into the tissues around the cups the body will begin to develop new blood vessels called neovascularisation, this means new blood vessel formation. As the new vessels form they will have the capability to feed the tissues with nutrients and oxygen.

Dry cupping also produces sterile inflammation. This is where the body releases white blood cells, platelets, fibroblasts and other chemicals to promote healing. When the vacuum occurs, it causes separation of the different levels of tissue which can cause microtrauma and tearing. The microtrauma is registered by the body, which then initiates sterile inflammation, thereby initiating the healing response.

• MEDICAL ACUPUNCTURE •

What is medical acupuncture?

Medical Acupuncture treats musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction as it helps to decrease muscular spasm and tension by targeting the ‘trigger points' (hypersensitive, knotted, tight points) within the muscle. It is particularly suitable when patients are suffering from muscular or ligamentous strain, arthritis, nerve irritation or discal or facetal neck or back pain.

What should you expect at your appointment?

Steph will choose the appropriate length and depth of the needle for your body size and condition. The acupuncture needles are solid stainless steel, no substances are being injected via the needles. The needles are very thin in diameter and sometimes you can’t feel them going in, whereas other times it may feel like a quick pin-prick sensation. Steph will insert the needle into the trigger point, palpated with her fingers as tension spots. Occasionally the trigger point will react with a twitch response lasting less than a second, this is followed by muscle relaxation where the muscle ‘releases.’

What should I expect after my appointment?

Following a treatment involving Medical Acupuncture, you may be achy and sore for anything up to 24-48 hours and may experience occasional bruising. The application of ice and stretching is often recommended to reduce these symptoms.
