I really wanted to share these because I know Barre isnât as well-known as Pilates or yoga here in Devon (there are so many ways to move your body, which I think is fantastic!). So Iâm sharing some of my personal experiences with Barre in case you find them helpful. If youâd like to find out how Barre can support your health and wellbeing, feel free to contact me for more information.
Bit of an essay, I know â but when it comes to health, there are no shortcuts⌠it all deserves to be said!
Since starting barre, Iâve noticed so many small changes that add up to a big difference â both physically and mentally:
⢠Improved posture: Not that mine was bad before, but I definitely look up more now. I used to look at the floor a lot â chin up!
⢠Better stamina: Barre has a cardio element, so Iâve found I get less out of breath walking up stairs (and can actually talk through the class now!).
⢠Lower body fat: Combined with a small calorie deficit, my muscles look slimmer and more defined.
⢠Stronger muscles: I can feel it day to day â carrying shopping, moving furniture, even standing feels more stable.
⢠Chronic back pain gone: I think itâs because in barre you isolate each side a lot. At the gym, compound lifts can let one side compensate for the weaker one.
⢠Better balance: Still a work in progress, but those single-leg moves are definitely getting easier.
⢠Improved coordination: The combination of small, precise movements and musical timing has helped so much.
⢠Feeling calmer and more centred: Itâs such a mind-body workout â you have to stay present, so itâs almost meditative at times.
⢠Realising how strong and capable I am: Every barre class feels like a small achievement. You start shaking halfway through, thinking you canât hold it any longer â but then you do. Thatâs when it hits you: youâre stronger than you think, physically and mentally. Each class proves it a little more.
