Today at Creative Serenity, we’re marking World Down Syndrome Day by reflecting on this year’s theme: loneliness 💙💛

Loneliness can affect anyone, but people with Down syndrome and other additional needs can be especially at risk of feeling isolated. Today is about recognising that everyone deserves connection, friendship, and to feel truly included in their community.

We’re wearing our odd socks to celebrate difference and to start conversations that break down barriers. Because inclusion isn’t just about being present… it’s about belonging.

At Creative Serenity, we’re proud to create a space where people feel seen, supported, and connected every day. Together, we can help build a world where no one feels alone.

Friday Fun took a colourful turn today as we swapped Easter crafts for something a little more tropical. The room filled with parrots, a few very characterful toucans, and plenty of imagination. Felt pens were flying, streamers were everywhere, and creativity was very much in full flow.
Emily kept us on track by reminding everyone it’s Red Nose Day, creating a design especially for the occasion that definitely stood out from the flock.
We were also delighted to welcome two new creative friends, which means all current sessions are now full. The good news is a brand new Tuesday session is on the way, with five places still available. If you’d like to join, get in touch with Sam for more details.
And if your Tuesdays are looking a little quiet, why not consider volunteering with us? You’ll be rewarded with big smiles, that unbeatable warm fuzzy feeling, and more drinks and biscuits than you can reasonably justify. Just ask Karen who’s been on holiday but we strongly suspect she’s been in rehab for biscuit addiction. We can’t wait to welcome her back next week!

Big news from Creative Serenity (and yes, we’re still slightly buzzing about it)…
We’re officially working with DCC to provide Day Services! This means more support, more opportunities, and a big step forward in helping future service users access what we do best. Safe to say, we’re feeling pretty proud.
Speaking of pride… none of this would be possible without our incredible volunteers. Truly. Their dedication, energy, and ability to keep smiling through glitter explosions and rogue sequins is nothing short of heroic.
On the creative front, things have been as lively as ever. Today’s highlights included egg decorating taken to Olympic levels (sequins everywhere) and Holly quietly building a pom pom empire because apparently there is no such thing as “too many pom poms.” Keep an eye out, you might spot her in the photos.
We’ve also had some lovely visitors recently … last Friday, Sam’s daughter joined us, along with her cousin Mark who made the trip over from Cornwall for the day. Always nice to expand the chaos, I mean, creativity.
And just when we thought we couldn’t get any more active, Viktoria arrived and got everyone moving with some fantastic inclusive exercise sessions (with very clever equipment too). She’ll soon be running regular classes in Newton Poppleford on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so keep an eye on our page for more details.
Finally, we’re now taking names for a brand new Tuesday service launching around May. If you’re interested or if you fancy joining our team of wonderful volunteers get in touch with Sam.
We can’t promise calm and quiet… but we can guarantee biscuits, tea or coffee, and a lot of smiling…. Oh and glitter and googly eyes… so many googly eyes!

Wednesday was bursting with sunshine, smiles, and plenty of creativity.

Our morning was filled with crafting and laughter, and it looks like those Easter bunnies are multiplying fast. Alongside our growing bunny family, we also began an exciting new project using tissue paper that will soon become beautiful and useful pots or vases.

The energy in the room was fantastic from start to finish. Our dancing session was lively and full of enthusiasm, and our music session certainly made itself heard. It was a morning packed with fun, creativity, and great company.

We are also hoping to launch a new Tuesday session soon. This session will run for three and a half hours with a slightly later start time of around 11:30am.

If you would like more information, or if you are interested in booking a free taster session, please get in touch with Sam who will be happy to help.

Today is International Women’s Day, and I want to take a moment to say a truly heartfelt thank you to my fabulous volunteers.

You are some of the most supportive, dedicated, and caring women I have the honour to know. Your kindness, time, and commitment mean more than words can express, and everything you do helps make our group the warm and welcoming place it is.

Every session is special because of you, and without your support Creative Serenity simply wouldn’t happen. I am so grateful for each and every one of you. Thank you for all that you do. 💜

Finally it’s Friiiiday… and what a full-on, fun-filled day it was.

The creativity continued with more colourful stained glass windows made from the classic combination of tissue paper and sticky backed plastic. Safe to say the room looked a lot brighter than the weather outside.

There was also a full-scale bunny explosion as Easter crafts continued to appear everywhere you looked. And because St Patrick’s Day is just around the corner, we added some spectacular rainbows too, each one complete with a crock of gold at the bottom. No actual gold has been claimed yet, but we remain hopeful.

Glitter was, of course, applied with great enthusiasm. By the end of the session it wasn’t just the crafts sparkling… most of us looked like we’d accidentally walked through a glitter storm.

The stencils came out and everyone carefully created some brilliant designs. Even Ellie and Karen, our amazing volunteers, rolled up their sleeves and got involved. We think they secretly enjoyed it.. actually there’s no doubt about that!

Our music session also took a slightly sporty turn with a tribute to the Exmouth Tigers. Brian requested Eye of the Tiger, which meant plenty of enthusiastic singing, playing along and a few very determined-looking performers.

All in all, fantastic fun made our Friday truly fabulous. If you’d like to find out more about how you can get involved or book your free taster session, please contact Sam.

Foggy skies outside, but inside it was a full-on colour explosion.

Wednesday may have been wrapped in grey, but we brought the sunshine with a serious throwback craft session. Armed with sticky backed plastic, proudly made famous by the legendary Blue Peter , we got well and truly stuck in (literally). The result? A stunning collection of stained-glass-style windows bursting with colour and creativity.

And because every dedicated chocoholic knows what time it is… the Easter countdown has officially begun. That means eggs, chicks, bunnies and absolutely anything else we can creatively connect to Easter will be making regular appearances over the next few weeks. Consider yourselves warned.

We wrapped up the season in style with some gloriously groovy dancing … special nods to Lee …plus fantastic singing, enthusiastic playing, and plenty of signing along to the music. Energy levels: high. Smiles: even higher.

If you’d like to find out more about our sessions or how to get involved, get in touch with Sam. Come and join the fun.

Friday Fun brought the sunshine … and apparently a surprise visit from the world of Pokémon.

In case you didn’t know (we didn’t until Emily delivered the crucial breaking news), it was International Pokémon Day. Naturally, this became very important information.

Our creative mission for the day was clear… bring the sunshine out from behind those stubborn rain clouds. Operation “Mr Blue Sky” was a success. We crafted beautiful stained glass-style tissue paper windows and proudly displayed them, confidently encouraging brighter skies. We’re pleased to report they worked.

Pom Pom production also continued at impressive levels. Sam bravely tackled our rather dramatic surplus of googly eyes … by “getting rid of them,” we of course mean putting them to excellent use transforming Pom Poms into wonderfully wide-eyed Pokémon creations. Truly visionary work.

We wrapped up the day in the best possible way: singing, dancing, and a delightful story read by our ever-enthusiastic Karen, who never fails to bring a tale to life.
A big thank you to Sandra and Janet who kindly donated some amazing craft supplies… they will definitely be put to good use.

If you’d like to join the Friday Fun, we currently have one all-day space available, or one morning and one afternoon space. For more information, please contact Sam …before the googly eyes take over completely.

Wednesday arrived with Wow and Sunshine, and what a day it’s been. Laughter, creativity, and a whole lot of sparkle filled the room from start to finish.

Brian set the pace with unstoppable crafting energy, completing every project in sight and still finding time to create drawings and add even more memories to his scrapbook. Truly impressive dedication.

A special shoutout goes to Tracy, whose bead threading skills were nothing short of amazing. The care, the focus, the perfectly arranged colour schemes … a beautiful example of patience and creativity in action.

Tony proudly finished his bowl and gave it a dazzling upgrade with sequins, while Ross beamed with pride over his own fantastic bead threading achievements.

With sunshine streaming in, spirits were high and feet were light, bringing an extra spring to our steps and plenty of joy to our dancing.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible volunteers. Your dedication, kindness, and support make days like this possible, and we are so grateful for everything you do.

We currently have one place available on Wednesday and one on Friday, both morning and afternoon. For more details, please contact Sam.

Fabtabulous Fridays Update!

Apologies for the slightly delayed post … last Friday was a triple celebration spectacular.

We celebrated Ellie, our truly amazing volunteer, who marked a BIG birthday, alongside Jane and Emily. Naturally, cake was involved.

Our projects took a wonderfully unexpected turn with Space rockets and… sheep. No, they don’t traditionally go together, but we still have a gazillion googly eyes to use up, so creativity won the day.

As always, we danced, sang, and signed the day away.

Exciting news:
We have 2 places available in our fantastic groups:
• Wednesday mornings
• Fridays (all day)

If you’d like to join the fun, don’t hesitate to contact Sam for more information or to book a free taster session.

Come for the activities, stay for the laughter (and possibly a stray googly eye).

Wednesday may have been wet and miserable outside, but not at Creative Serenity. We brightened the day with smiles, laughter, and a generous splash of creativity. Armed with sparkling sequins, we ignored the grey skies and created a rainbow of colour instead. The room was buzzing with energy, joy, and imagination , and it truly shines through in today’s creations.

We were delighted to welcome Brian and Ryan, who received their very own scrapbooks, ready to be filled with fantastic projects in the months ahead. Clive also rose to the challenge by taking on an extra-big jigsaw puzzle and impressively, he completed it in record time. Dancing and music brought even more excitement, with everyone showing off their impressive signing skills and top-tier routines. Special mention goes to Lee, whose expert moves …clearly inspired by Steps …took things to another level.

All in all, it was a wonderfully energetic and productive day, full of sunshine and smiles (even if the weather didn’t get the memo).

For more information about our sessions and what’s coming up, please contact Sam.
And a little creative call-out: we’re currently on the lookout for beads for upcoming projects.

Rainy days don’t stand a chance around here.
