Garden project at The Depperhaugh Nursing Home completed with community support! π
An elegant pergola, the centrepiece of a new garden at The Depperhaugh Nursing Home, in Chickering Road, Hoxne, was formally opened on Wednesday, 7 May.
Attending a morning reception at the Kingsley Healthcare Group home, alongside residents and staff, were representatives of Arts Society Diss , Jewson in Diss, and The Street Forge of Thornham Magna, a small charity which offers activities for adults with disabilities. All generously supported the project.
The funding from the Art Society also paid for the beautiful flowers and shrubs in surrounding planters made by the Street Forge.
Home manager Debbie Reeve said: βThe idea for the project started when our activities coordinator Jane Steggall visited a local voluntary group and got chatting to members of the art society.
βThey were very interested in The Depperhaugh and said they would like to support us in some way. They came and looked around the garden and I explained how a pergola would be a perfect addition β a place for residents and staff to sit and enjoy the special views.β
Debbie described the project as a βreal team and community effortβ; her husband designed the pergola, her gardeners and maintenance man prepared the area and an Art Society volunteer kindly constructed it using timber that was all donated by Jewsonβs.
She said: βI would like to thank everyone involved. Itβs great to have such marvellous community support and the pergola has received many compliments and is already being used by residents, staff and visitors. The art society is now talking about helping us with the next stage of the project, adding bird boxes around the site.ββ¨
