IMPORTANT UPDATE

Dear patients,

Community Treatment and Care (CTAC)

We are writing to inform you of upcoming changes to the CTAC / Treatment room booking service.

Please note this is a Scottish Government Initiative that has already been brought in all over Scotland and which is now being rolled out across NHS Borders.

From Monday 29th September 2025, patients will no longer be able to book appointments via Eyemouth Medical Practice / Day Hospital reception and will instead need to contact the NHS Borders Centralised booking hub to arrange appointments.

Services affected will include
• Wound care and dressings
• All blood tests
• B12 injections and other routine injections
• ECGs and blood pressure checks
• Some other routine procedures

To arrange an appointment from this date forward, please call Central Booking Hub on 01896 809 250 Monday to Friday 0800 to 1700hrs.

Day Hospital reception will continue to offer assistance, where they can, to those who are most vulnerable or unable to arrange appointments via telephone.

******IMPORTANT PATIENT INFORMATION******
ESSENTIAL COMPUTER SYSTEM UPGRADE - WEDNESDAY 3RD SEPTEMBER

We are due to have essential work carried out to upgrade to a new clinical server. This work unfortunately needs to be carried out during normal working hours and could not be scheduled after hours or at the weekend. We would like to provide some information to minimise disruption to services as much as possible.

APPOINTMENTS:- We will operate a limited “urgent on the day” service only on: WEDNESDAY 3RD SEPTEMBER 2025

During the period of the change over there will be limited, or no, access to computerised records and we will be reverting to a manual appointment system. This is to enable a new computer server to be installed. During this period there will be NO advanced booking of appointments and limited, or no, computerised information will be available.

To ease the transition to the new system it would help us if patients requiring routine non-urgent appointments avoided requesting appointments during this period.

Patients requiring urgent attention or advice should contact the Practice as normal. Patients who attend the Practice may experience longer waiting times and we apologise for this.

HOME VISITS:- There will be no change to our procedure for requesting home visits.

REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS:- Please order repeat prescriptions in the usual way. There may be a delay in processing the prescription so please allow extra time for this.

RESULTS:- We will have limited access to test results during the upgrade period. So please call us on the next working day.

Your co-operation at this time will be very much appreciated.

Happy Easter everyone!!

Just a reminder that the surgery will be closed tomorrow (Monday 21st April) for the NHS Borders public holiday. We will open again as normal on Tuesday morning.

If you require medical attention in the meantime, please contact NHS24 who will direct you to an appropriate clinician, or 999 in the event of a life threatening emergency.

04/04/2025

The next Borders public holiday is Monday 21 April 2025.

Most community pharmacies will be closed.

In preparation for this please check your repeat prescriptions and order only what you need, in plenty of time - ideally up to 10 working days in advance.

It’s also a good idea to stock up on common over-the-counter medications so that you are ready to deal with any common seasonal illnesses such as hay fever, coughs, indigestion or dehydration from sickness and diarrhoea.

A list of pharmacies that will be open can be found here: https://www.nhsborders.scot.nhs.uk/public-holidays

Progress being made on temporary relocation of services from Knoll Hospital site in Duns

Staff from NHS Borders, affected GP Practices and the wider Health and Social Care Partnership continue to work round the clock to progress the safe relocation of patients and services from the Knoll Hospital site.

This is due to the presence of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) which requires remedial action.

All patients who were being treated in the Knoll Community Hospital have now moved to an alternative place to continue their care. We would like to thank patients and their families for their cooperation and understanding throughout this process.

Alternative accommodation for the majority of displaced services has now been identified and work is underway to schedule moves. This includes consideration of how some services may continue to be provided safely on site from non-RAAC affected areas, as well as possible alternative locations for temporary facilities and use of other public sector estate. Affected patients will be contacted directly to advise the location of services that were provided in the health centre, and a further communication will be issued next week to advise the public of these arrangements.

Andrew Bone, Director of Finance, Estates and Facilities said: “I would like to thank all staff involved including our social work colleagues for their continued hard work, as well as our patients, their families and carers, the community of Duns and the surrounding areas for your patience and understanding.

“Further updates will follow as arrangements are confirmed and frequently asked questions can be found on the NHS Borders website."
