- Prepare for birth, mentally and physically

On top of that you get to lie on your front using my magical pregnancy pillow. It’s worth it just for that, I think.

**NEWS**
Firstly, thank you so much to those who provided me with lots of practise whilst studying for sports massage Level 4 qualification. I PASSED 🤗
This has given me a much more specific knowledge on how we get those relentless aches and pains that can have such an affect on our lives and most importantly how to get rid of them!
I’ve also managed to fit in a pregnancy massage course. Since being pregnant myself I have experienced first hand the way in which our body adjusts to make room for the newest member of the family, and how painful this can be! There are so many benefits to having a massage when pregnant from relieving aching joints and bad backs to helping to bring on labour, when the time is right!
This leads me on to tell you the final piece of news which is that I have decided to down tools (for now) to concentrate on having my baby! I can’t wait to get back to it and keep learning. I will let you know when I’m back.
Thanks again for all your support so far in getting started with a career that I really love. ✌️ @ Whelford, Wiltshire, United Kingdom

Levator Scapulae - A common cause of NECK PAIN

Symptoms of a tight/ overworked Levator Scapulae

- Pain felt between top of shoulder blade and behind ear
- Pain and restricted movement when turning head to look behind you and laterally flexing neck (holding phone between ear and shoulder)

How to self help

Perform stretch as shown - turn head 45 degrees and then chin to chest
You can place a hand on top of your head to increase stretch
Best done when muscle is warm - A good one to do in the shower!

Long term- consider posture. This muscle is overworked having to stabilise the head when looking down usually at our phones! Think about the position of your neck over long periods of time - Can you set your computer up so you’re looking straight ahead?

If you think this is causing you pain and would like a deep tissue massage to lengthen out the Levator Scapulae please get in touch

If you spend time looking at your phone, using a computer or driving you may well suffer from upper cross syndrome.

This means two things:
1. A weakening and lengthening of the posterior upper back and neck muscles.
2. A tightening and shortening of the opposing anterior pectoral (chest) and neck muscles.

Common symptoms are:
* Shoulder pain, upper back and neck pain
* Headache
* Rounded shoulders
* Forward head posture

To correct this the short tight pectoral muscles need to be stretched and lengthened and the stretched weak upper back muscles need to be strengthened.

Included above are some exercises specifically aimed at targeting these problem areas.

Alternatively, if you think a deep tissue massage maybe what’s needed to get you back in shape then please get in touch for assessment and/or treatment.
