Proud of his effort πŸ‘Œ

After lunch experiential learning. (He cooked)
I bought old vintage tools for Β£10 (result) we spent part of the afternoon salvaging them back to working order.
Removing rust, sharpning the blade, sanding the handles.
He was well exited to give axe ago.

Then we added in some serious problems solving. Where team work was essential.
Putting up a tent, carrying it down to woods and getting it up into my tree house without it falling apart.
What a Team, What a Team. πŸ’ͺ πŸ’ͺ

The beat of the drum in nature acts as a symbolic, rhythmic bridge, mirroring the human heartbeat, the pulse of Mother Earth, and natural elements like thunder or rushing water. It serves as a tool for grounding and connection, often used in shamanic rituals to induce trance-like, spiritual states.

They spent this afternoon in the woods not just learning about the importance of looking after nature, but how to reep the benifits of being out nature.

They built Toad Amode , (toad houses) giving toads safe place to hibernate, keep safe from predators.
Common Toads are protected mainly against sale and trade, but are also considered priority species for conservation efforts due to population declines. In the UK, all native amphibians are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, with specific rules for different types.

Bird feeders been put up round the woods, the yp made Bat, Bird & Beasty Bug hotels on an other session Kids from Seamab put them up Monday.
They learned about fire lighting the skills you need if they were to lighting a fire in nature, woodlands
What tinder to use where to collect if, No green wood. Not use all the dead wood.
When make a fire area it has secure boundaries not to spread fire,
Dangers of lighting fires in dry season the risks and damage an out of control fire could do to the surrounding envioument, the animals, propert and the damage it could cause.

The young lads from Inclusion Wellbeing Services
Stepped up their game when working in teams they had to build their own survival shelter.

In the morning session one lad, first time visiting. Right into a survival situation, no tools, a ruck sack with minimum resourses no experience
We worked together putting up a Tarp shelter, learn fire lighting skills using flint steel, collecting tinder get fire on the go to cook his own noodles.
He had the best experience, great chats, loved the noodles almost licked the pot clean.

Afternoon
Last wk the lads built models of A Frame & Lean To Shelters
This wk they came in with a purpose and the confidance to get on the job put their new skills to the test.

Lots of problem solving, communication was key, its was physical task some big logs were being carried through the woods.
One team gave themselves 5/10 needs more work to it.
Other team 7/10 great effort from both teams.

Another full on productive day of learning the life skills and attitude, Scott Outdoor Learning Officer and the teacher well proud of the boys efforts.

Working, supporting& caring for children who are in the Care services sadly live and relive their experiences every day, by demonstrating it through diffrent ways of behaviour or showing big feelings.

Its my care duty no matter what storm they might be going through and no matter the weather I will take them out make time to get away from themselves and hopefully make their day bit more enjoyable, learn new skills, have new experiences, be creative , get involved in their imaginary play have fun and cuddles with the boys.
Still make time for the school work to be done , even in the pouring rain.
Basic Education is so important for these wee people if their going to get a chance in life.

Today's lesson
Fire lighting - using flint steel
Life skills - Prepare & cook Sausages Mash for lunch
Knife skills -Shred the bark of a stick wee fella found.
Creavativity - made it his own wizard stick where the boys got zapped quite few times.

Well deserved Hot Choc marshmallows for his effort.
Yip he had to make his own Hot Choc.

Today realy demonstrates the importance for wee kids like this wee guy who is a tiny 7 yr old, courage of a lion being out in nature, no matter the weather, and dressed properly certainly will help regulate them, even make them smile , not for always but at least for a short time thats my care duty, my responsibility.

Wee fella left his school books back in class this morning, no sure if it was deliberate,
(I know I would have πŸ˜ƒ)

So I made sure he had his thinking cap on all day, and he was using it well.

Some masionery work.
Measuring, sawing wood, hammering nails revamping boys kennel.
Boys love it

Cutting sticks using the secateurs to make his own charcoal, adding little creativity to the session some tree art.

He had to make, prepare his own lunch.
Collect enough tinder get the fire on the go.
Lunch menue- sausages, noodles, make his own rolls in dutch overn.

Working on his survival skills, making his own fire lighters using wax, wood shavings add little fire lighter so it will light in all weather.

We went wonder of the beating track through rough Castle woods down to the canal watching Cormorant for ages in hope it catch a fish.

He asked if we could go somewhere diffrent, he said my woods are boring.
I said "Yip back to class let's go.
Never seen kid change his mind so quick.
Saying he loves my woods.

Alot going on in Well Wild Forest School thismorning.

Did you hear us ??πŸ‘‚

Myleene had the responsibility to set the fire get the kettles on before the troops arrived.
While the older boys were working as a team I left to problem solve how to set up a Hammock properly, safely.
Took few scratching heads before they accomplished their task.

While some practised on their flint steel skills, one kid for the first time.

One kid on the block redeemed herself made the Hot Choc Hot, last wk we had Clold Hot Choc
Few complaints.
But not today.

Two boys were in their element digging out a stone with their own digging tools that could possibly be form the Roman Fort, and worth a few $1000 Dollars
I promised if it is a sell it, il take the boys for a McDonald's... πŸ˜ƒ

And big thanks to Aunti Dawn
who became everyone's Aunti because she brought marshmallows and candy sticks to put in the Hot Choc. So she was loved by

What's this Sunday Forest School all about im asked. What the benifits for the kids who attending...πŸ˜„

As this wee fells says...
Its time to shine 🌞

Forest School gives children the chance to learn outdoors in a natural environment. It helps improve their confidence, independence, and self-esteem as they try new activities and take safe risks. Children become more physically active by climbing, running, balancing, and exploring, which supports their health and coordination. Forest School also develops important learning skills such as problem-solving, creativity, and concentration. Working in groups helps children build communication and teamwork skills. Spending time in nature can reduce stress and improve mood, supporting emotional well-being. It also teaches children to respect and care for the environment, helping them grow into responsible and thoughtful individuals. 🌿

All that personal development on a Sunday FS they think there their to play... πŸ˜€

Theme for today session with 6 Boys from Carmuirs Primary was all about Accountability.
It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being honest, responsible, and willing to grow.

John Youth & Community Development Worker
Safer Communities Youth Action project received Grass Roots Youth Work Fund to run a 10 wk course working closely with Principal teacher of the school and the 6 boys will be working towards Youth Scotland Dynamic Youth Awards.

Every activity, skilled learned or shared we reflected on the boys own accountability, taking ownership for their actions, being more supportive or encouraging each other.
They were able to communicate in a more positive manner to each other during the team building exercises.
Outcome... its been the fasted time ever to accomplish this activity.

3 Boys who have attended Well Wild sessions before showed great confidance in their bush craft skills, demonstrating & teaching their peers who had never done it before how to use flint steel safely, split wood with knife mallet correctly, and set up the kelly kettle properly get it boiled up for the Hot Choc & Marshmallows for their effort.
What realy impressed their teacher the 3 boys listed to their peers when teaching them new skills.
