M.O.T.I.V.A.T.I.O.N

Do you feel motivated all the time to train? I sure as heck don't! As a coach, it's a common misconception that I should always have the motivation to train, have a goal, always make time to train...I can categorically tell you, that is definitely NOT the case!

A dose of my current reality:
💜 I have absolutely no motivation or desire to train on my own
💜 I have to either book into a class (big up for having awesome classes!) or arrange to meet someone to actually train
💜 After a 10 hour shift, I will not be training, I will be going home and hibernating on the sofa
💜 I often feel like I am not training enough and sometimes feel guilty about that
💜 I don't have any goals, other than to move in ways that I enjoy and make me feel good

This isn't a post to tell you that you must find motivation, it's actually more a post to say...your training will ebb and flow over the year and that is ok. Sometimes life gets in the way and training isn't the priority, other times you have the time and headspace to dedicate to training. Both of these situations are ok and are perfectly normal, so give yourself a break if you're not 'on it' with your training, your time will come!

The Power of Hormones! 🌸

Not my usual fitness post, but I felt it was important to share this part of my journey.

For a while, I haven’t felt like myself—feeling down, struggling with motivation, high anxiety, brain fog, intense night sweats, achy joints, muscle pain, and so many other odd symptoms. It was like my body and mind weren’t my own, and that was honestly terrifying.

After a lot of hesitation, I finally opened up to my GP. I suspected perimenopause, but at 36, it didn’t seem possible. But on Friday, my GP confirmed that these symptoms could indeed be from low oestrogen. Now, we’re working to determine whether it’s a temporary hormonal shift or if I’m in perimenopause. The treatment is the same either way, so here I am, 36 years old, starting HRT!

The incredible part? After just 24 hours with my oestrogen patch, I began to feel like myself again. Not everything’s fixed overnight, but I already feel so much better!

There’s still a road ahead—I have a follow-up in 4 weeks—but I want to share this journey. Female hormones and menopause are still too often avoided in conversation, so I’ll keep speaking up. Let’s break the silence and the stigma together!

I think this event deserves a place on the grid!

We did an ultra marathon!!!

I won't sugarcoat it, it was flipping hard at times and dealing with cramp from 8km wasn't fun but we got through. We scaled Holman's Tor, we made our way through fields, over rivers, through quaint villages and through woodland.

The human body is an incredible thing, especially paired with a good dose of positive mental attitude! When the cramp kicked in, I thought I was a goner, but I kept positive and managed to walk/run the rest of the route.

8 years ago when I had my last hip operation, I could never have even dreamed that I would be able to do something like this, it is a dream come true. It was also a nightmare at times and something I will NOT be repeating! 😂

Massive shout-out to .j.p_life_train who helped me up some horrendous hills and stuck with me when he could have gone much faster!

Thank you and dad for being our support crew, picking us up at 5.15am this morning and popping up at various intervals to cheer us on, seeing your faces made the world of difference! Also, thank you and family for cheering us on at the finish line!

Even better?! We are currently up to £670 for , thank you so much to everyone who has sponsored us. For those who haven't, there is still time, the link is in my stories.

As you may know, Rob and I are running 28.5 miles on 7th September from Padstow to Fowey. We are doing this to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support as a very close friend of ours is currently fighting breast cancer.

Here is the link to our Just giving page. Please don't feel obliged to donate, it's just there if you fancy it!

We have got up to 15 miles in training so far (furthest either of us have ever run), next run will be 17...wish us luck and me a miracle 😂

Let's normalise exercising because it feels good!

For as long as I can remember, I have always had to have a goal, a target, something to work towards in order for me to feel like my training has purpose. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this and for many this is what keeps them consistent. On the other hand, it is so easy to become fixed on that 1 goal that we lose the enjoyment factor, we push when actually our body is asking us to slow down and training becomes a chore, rather than an enjoyable experience.

I am currently dealing with a flare up of an old injury and have had to totally reassess my training. I can't do my normal gym training and I have finally realised, that is ok! I'm now running, cycling, walking and every now and then I throw in a one armed workout. Surprisingly, I am feeling good about my training and although it doesn't look like it did even a few months ago, that is ok!

For the first time in forever I am listening to my body and it really is paying off. I don't stress about having to get X number of workouts in a week, if I'm down to run 1 day, but feel like crap, I miss it and pop it in on another day. If I feel good, I may even run and cycle in the same day.

Exercise is a celebration of what the body can do and I am choosing to focus on the amazing things I can do rather than sulking about not having 2 working arms right now 😂

If you feel like you need to reassess your training, pop me a message and we can have a chat about it
