Life on Menorca is pretty relaxed. Chamomile is widely grown here. Now, correlation does not equal causation but in this case ....?
Everyone knows about the relaxing properties of chamomile tea, but did you know that it's an effective antiinflammatory first aid for tired and sore eyes? Take extra care of your eyes and if in doubt, see a health practitioner.

Bitters Bitters Bitters, They have so many benefits. Not many patients escape without a little brown bottle of herbal bitters. Often a blend of Artemisia, Feverfew and Dandelion root. I ask that they taste them. No disguising the taste with sugar or honey please, they won't work as effectively.
Don't run from bitter!

Rosemary has many health benefits. It's a digestive aid, good for easing catarrh, helps with cirulation and is known to improve memory and congnition. It's intriguing then, to read of Rosemary being prepared as a cream for episiotomy tears. A placebo controlled study showed that it worked well. https://doi.org/10.1186/s12906-022-03675-1

We enjoyed a super low spring tide near Rosemullion Head today, perfect for a quick sea spaghetti harvest. I snipped off the terminal fronds, leaving a good length and the holdfast, to regrow. Blanched in simmering water for a couple of minutes, bagged and it's now in the freezer ready for soups, salads and sea spag. bol.! Although tbh it's a lot more like linguini than spaghetti.

Along the Western Celtic fringe there's a tradition of eating seaweed. Rich in vitamins, minerals, fibre and mucilage it's a good wild supplement to add flavour and variety to your diet.

I treated this person with herbs for a short time. I offered some diet and lifestyle advice, which to be honest I wasn't sure they would take on board. Then many months later, I receive an email to say he's embraced those positive changes, lost a lot of excess weight, is pain free and has renewed health and vitality.
Herbal medicine can work for you too.

Olive leaf abundance!
I was delighted to be offered a big bag of olive leaf today; far more than I can harvest from my own small tree. The health benefits of olive oil are well known, but let's not overlook the leaves. A pharmacopoeia of cardiovascular support, with olive leaf extract potentially reducing systolic blood pressure, improving lipid profile, reducing arterial stiffness. Olive is a mild plant powered ACE inhibitor also improving oxygen saturation

I shall dry and powder these leaves and make capsules. They'll be a good supplement for people with hypertension or hyperlipidaemia. Always prescription only, following a full assessment.

The fourth trimester of pregnancy (the twelve weeks following childbirth) is a time when baby adapts to the outside world and the mother navigates the challenges of recovery and parenting. It’s such an important time. A mother needs birth recovery, stress management, herbal teas, essences and balms, nourishing food, sleep and movement. The trouble is, our society doesn’t really do postpartum very well, so a mum may not receive the care she needs and the result is often exhaustion, anxiety, hormonal imbalances, overwhelm, hair and skin problems and emotional dysregulation. It’s called postpartum depletion. Not depression, but depletion. You’ve literally run your resources down and need to rebuild. If your recovery plan includes ‘mothering’ herbs, so much the better.
Did you experience postpartum depletion? What did you find most restorative?

To be well you need to eat well. In the UK, to eat well you have to be either wealthy, or smart and determined.
Government policy has for decades, pushed the consumer away from whole nutritious foods, towards highly processed, nutrient poor, addictive junk and the only thing that feeds is chronic disease. Oh, and food industry profits.
I don't see signs of positive changes yet but let's hope they listen to

This little creeping plant is a mucous nembrane tonic. It grows in semi shade, at the base of stone hedges. The leaves are distinctive, forming not quite a full circle, with scalloped edges.
Having just sent out the last few grams in a patient's tea, I was pleased to find plenty in my favorite gathering space near Penryn.
Can you guess the plant's name?
