We were incredibly lucky to have the extremely talented musical duo Vinatge Dreams play for us today. Astounding singing from Lucy complemented by the amazing keyboard skills of Glen brought the songs to life. A superb selection of songs from across the sixties, seventies and eighties had us all captivated. Our residents loved them (and the staff did too!).

It wasn’t just the BBQ that was hot today! Phew! But despite the heat, everyone had a lovely time in the grounds of Blackbrook House. Residents, visitors and staff got to enjoy the entertainment, which included the Portsmouth Pluckers and performances from the Kim Ellen Dancers. We had such a lovely array of classic cars to look at too. A wonderful time was had by all!

Just a reminder that the Blackbrook House Classic Car Event is tomorrow – Saturday 12th July. It’s free to enter, so please come along and enjoy the cars, the music, and all the entertainment on offer, from 2pm to 5pm. And it looks like the sun will shine on us!

Phew! It’s hot. But despite the warmth, the Blackbrook House knitting club has found the shadier side of the house to carry on knitting. There’s no stopping them!

Blackbrook House is a short distance away from the Solent, with great views across to the Isle of Wight. This historic stretch of water gives us plenty of choice to get out and about, with residents able to stretch their legs, enjoy a treat or a coffee, and take in the view. Today Caroline and Jane got out into the warmth (and the patchy sunshine) at Alverstoke.

We’re so lucky to have 3 acres of landscaped gardens at Blackbrook House, and on a day like today it’s no wonder that residents like to get outside and enjoy its beauty. Ruby wanted to do just that, getting out into the sunshine to smell the blooms and to take advantage of everything the garden has to offer.

It may not quite be the brilliant sunshine we’d like just yet, but pleasant enough for us to get outside and enjoy a lunchtime BBQ! Not only a freshly grilled lunch, but a glass of Pimms, followed by strawberries and cream. We’ll just have to do it all again when the sun decides to show itself properly!

We have an amazing piece of technology at Blackbrook House for the residents to enjoy. We call it our activity table but it’s easier to think of it as an enormous touchscreen, like an iPad. Cyril and our activities co-ordinator Julie can be seen here using one of the activity table’s many functions – a sensory program which Cyril has enjoyed immensely. There are many other applications, catering for all abilities – and it’s there for the residents to discover, play and interact with every day.

We’re very lucky at Blackbrook House to be neighbour’s with the wonderful Ruth. She’s so marvellous that, today, she invited our residents round for tea and homemade cake in her fabulous garden. What a fantastic way to spend a sunny afternoon!

We celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE Day in style at Blackbrook House with a fabulous party. There was a sing-a-long with local vocalist Katy, quizzes, beer and cocktails, and a wartime menu for the tastebuds. Best of all, lots of stories and memories to share too. A wonderful day all round.

When the weather is as good as this we’re faced with two choices: Have knitting club inside or have knitting club outside. I think we made the right choice!

With Easter almost here, the residents of Blackbrook House have been engaging in some seasonal crafts. A lovely selection of Easter bonnets now all made and ready to wear!
