Its coming.

The day you not only truly realise that diets don't work, but that you deserve a far more peaceful relationship with food and your body, without 'giving up' on health and the things that are important to you.

The good news is that un-dieting your life is waiting for you and here are the top 3 signs that you are ready to start…

1. You are fed up with constantly starting over – the cycles of feast and famine are exhausting. You just want to be able to enjoy food without all the effort and head space.

2. You are not ‘dieting' but you cannot have certain foods in the house – is sugar really the enemy and who is in control? You want to be able to eat the foods you like without the side of shame and guilt.

3. You are done hating your body – there must be more to life than this!

So, if not now, then when? When will you get off the diet roller coaster for good; when will you have fun with food again; when will you embrace the acceptance of the body you have today?

You deserve to live in your body free from judgement. You deserve to decide what is important to you and your health. You deserve compassionate support. You deserve freedom around food – and I’m here if you would like help to find it.

And I cannot possibly know what it is like to be you.

I studied nutrition and sometimes I don’t know what to eat.

I help people heal from disordered eating and I need to practice daily healing too.

I support clients and I need to be supported.

I am here because I have been there.

AND listening to you is more valuable than what I think I know.

Finding common humanity in disordered eating / eating disorder treatment.

Meaningful recovery from a disordered relationship with food is one where weight can be restored.

Bodies need to have the space to RE-Store in order to heal.

This includes people on the higher end of the weight spectrum.

There is no limit to restoration when we trust that bodies know what to do.

Fat bodies know what to do.

Thin bodies that become fat know what to do.

Fatness heals.

To us* (white thin/straight sized) nutritionists working in non-diet spaces and benefitting from HAES(R) …

Cries of ‘I didn’t know’ and ‘I had no idea’ when marginalised people come forward with *multiple accounts* of harmful experiences does not relinquish us from being accountable to the harms we have undoubtedly done.

We will continue to do harm if we do not centre the voices of the people and the social justice we are here to be in service of.

I stand with

I stand against the harms and the actions of and others in the aftermath namely and others who are silent

Have you explored diet culture? How does it show up for you in your life? What would it mean to you to be liberated from diet culture’s ridiculous standards?
🙅‍♀️ Diet culture is a system of beliefs that equates thinness and certain body shapes with health, morality and beauty.
🙅‍♀️ Diet culture dictates a moral obligation to control weight and body shape through externally prescribed performative behaviours.
🙅‍♀️ Diet culture criticises certain foods and approves others by painting a binary, medicalised, colonial view of eating.
🙅‍♀️ Diet culture erases human experience, discriminates and stigmatises people who do not match up to this narrow version of health and beauty.
🙅‍♀️ But the word is out - diet culture is messing with our relationship with food, our bodies and each other and we can UNSUBSCRIBE!
If you would like explore more about diet culture and you, I always suggest a free 20 minute chat so you can hit me with your thoughts and questions. DM me to say Hi.

My nutrition sessions gave me the space to explore societal expectations of eating and bodies. It is such a great feeling to reject diet cultures ridiculous standards and choose to live according to my values.” To the top left of the text is a line drawing of a clipboard with tick boxes and a calendar with an arrow and a small star. To the bottom of the text is the logo of Clare Moran nutrition which is a butterfly with yellow, orange, purple, green and blue wings with a central body in the shape of a fork.]

Despite its sci-fi name, mycoprotein is an economical and climate-smart alternative to beef.
🦠 Decades of research and food safety testing has gone into the development of mycoprotein aka the brand Quorn from Marlow Foods, UK (not sponsored).
🌍 We know that food production is one of the largest contributors to climate change in terms of biodiversity loss, degradation of ecosystems, water use and GHG emissions.
🥩Alternative sources of protein will continue to be important in sustainable agriculture and we will need to stop the fear mongering over ‘processed’ or ‘unnatural’ foods.
🙂 Mycoprotein is just one of the options for meat-reducing, as well as including more vegetables, soy protein, nuts and seeds as part of a varied diet (but you knew that anyway!)

✨Note to self: eating intuitively is a privilege.
‘Intuitive Eating’ is not accessible to everyone.
The idea that we can all have access to the food we want, whenever we want it, has limitations.
The idea that we can all connect with our innate hunger and fullness cues has limitations.
The idea that we can (should?) stop using food for self regulation has limitations.
And yes, Intuitive Eating can be an amazing tool for recovery. It just isn’t going to be the only tool for many people.

Non-diet practice is rooted in respect.
Respect that is motivated by equality and equity feels very different to respect driven by authority and ego.
When respect is demanded, a client is unheard, unseen and their thoughts and feelings are overridden by the ‘expert’.
Whereas respect that is coming from a place of fairness and justice, enables the client to be held in the moment AND have the space to say no, to disagree, to give feedback.
We regularly ask ‘who’s voice matters here?’
✌🏻❤️

Anti-diet is not anti-weight loss.
Your weight is going to do one (or all) of 3 things in your lifetime - go up, go down or stay the same. Any and all of these are okay.
The pressure to control weight, to perform dieting behaviours, to restrict certain foods and present the body as a symbol of accomplishment is EVERYWHERE.
Anti-diet means giving you the space to explore, discuss and ponder how this pressure shows up in your life.
We then ask, now that you have more information, what would you like to do? What can you do with the resources that you have access to? What is the safest option for you now and for the future?
It is not for me to say what you should do. For some people, even after embracing anti-diet concepts, the pressure is overwhelming and the only option is to continue with the pursuit of weight loss.
Sure, it is not what I want for you, I truly hope and wish for change, but I acknowledge it is extremely difficult and your empowerment to make decisions for yourself is more important than my ‘success’ at converting you from diet to non-diet!!
The system is broken, not you (or me) 💙

Reasons why I won’t be your accountability buddy…
If your eating requires you to be accountable to someone else, you can be damn sure it involves restriction of some kind.
External food control will ⚡️never⚡️ bring you peace.
You deserve a happy, flexible, gentle relationship with food, on your terms.
I trust your body knows what to do, it is not up to me to decide what you need and when.
Instead, I will support you to let go of food rules, restriction and food fears.
That’s healthy eating 🧡

💫REPOST💫How can you be a ‘bad’ person for eating food?
😇 I really don’t care if you eat courgettes or cake - you are not being ‘naughty’ or ‘good’.
😇 I do care about your relationship with food and how you can enjoy a balanced variety of all the foods you like most of the time.
😇 A singular food is not inherently ‘unhealthy’ - the only exception being if you have a medical condition or food allergy (as diagnosed by a validated test method).
😇 Next time you and your friends are sharing disparaging comments about your eating, perhaps reach out with ‘we are not what we eat!’

Looking for evidence makes total sense, but what does ‘clinically proven’ mean?
🔬 It actually means very little. A single small study with limited results can still be used as a cited source of proof.
🔬 But before you feel you need to brush up on your research skills, in food marketing, the GB Nutrition and Health Claims (NHC) register not only permits authorised claims, it also lists claims that have been rejected.
🔬 For example, you’ve probably seen the claim permitted for plant sterols/stanols and maintenance of cholesterol levels.
🔬 A similar claim for wheat dextrin - a type of fibre - was not permitted due to weak effect size.
🔬 As an evidence-based practitioner, I understand data is important and will share with clients the best available research evidence.
🔬 And at the same time, I will acknowledge study limitations and my professional experience.
🔬 Clients then also share their values and experiences to build a complete picture of what the options are for them.
🔬 Navigating nutrition can be complicated but trusting your sources is a good place to start ✨
