Tail Carriage! What’s the obsession?!⬇️

In horses, asymmetric tail carriage can be been linked to a number of factors, including:
- Hindlimb discomfort (bilaterally or unilaterally)
- Muscular tension and/or discomfort
- Asymmetric muscle mass
- Lumbo/Sacral discomfort
-Poor saddle fit and/or thoracic discomfort
- Neurological conditions

For some horses, particularly those with known/managed, prehistoric or recurring conditions, asymmetric tail carriage can be their “normal”. However, if this isn’t typical for an individual horse, it could be a sign to have your vet or bodyworker give your horse the once over!
For some horses, tail carriage can be effected only in a specific gait or on one rein.
Other subtle signs of change can be:
- Tail clamped down
- Tail held high or irregularly
- Lack of resistance in the tail
