It’s time for change.
This post is not knocking the NHS they do an amazing job. Unfortunately they are underfunded and can’t offer all the support needed.
Every year, thousands of people travel abroad for weight loss surgery — not because they want to, but because NHS waiting lists are unbearably long and their health can’t afford to wait, choosing to take control before it’s too late.
But when they return home, they are often told by their GP that they can’t offer care because they had private surgery abroad. Therefore they have no structured aftercare. No access to dietitians, psychologists, or specialist follow-up. In many cases, even basic medical support is refused. Although they will look after you in an emergency.
A lot of the foreign clinics have good aftercare but it’s still abroad. So no Facebook to face appointment.
Healthcare should be based on need, not on where the surgery was performed. Patients who have undergone bariatric surgery abroad are still UK citizens, still taxpayers, still human beings. They deserve dignity, compassion, and medical care.
I have started a Bariatric Surgery Community in SKOOL.com this is aimed at providing support for people at all stages of bariatric treatment. From the due diligence stage through to post surgery care. Why not check it out.
Skool is a community platform. You can discover communities or create your own. Some are free, some paid. People earn full-time incomes building on Skool. You can, too!
