Ticks thrive in warm, damp weather. Take extra care when out in the countryside. Stick to cleared pathways/tracks, avoid long grass & carry out a thorough check after getting home.

Ticks thrive in warm, damp weather, so if we do actually get some rain in the coming days, take extra care when out in the countryside, stick to cleared pathways/tracks & carry out a thorough check for any unwanted passengers after getting home.

Not only can extreme hot weather pose a health risk, it can also have an effect on certain medicines. With the UK bracing for another heatwave this week, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) is reminding people that high temperatures can affect medicines and how well they work. Hot weather changes how your body responds to medications, which could impact people managing long-term conditions – but a few simple steps can help avoid problems.
To stay safe in the heat:
Store medicines somewhere cool, dry and out of direct sunlight – especially if you’re out and about.
Know the signs of heat-related illness – stay hydrated and listen to your body.
Take extra care in the sun if your medicine makes your skin more likely to burn.
And remember, for all medicines it’s important to read the leaflet and speak to a healthcare professional if you have any questions.
For more information visit https://www.gov.uk/government/news/dont-let-the-heatwave-affect-your-medicines-three-important-tips-from-the-mhra?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=govuk-notifications-topic&utm_source=50a26dc1-fdce-4b4e-bb0b-b1865bd55097&utm_content=immediately

Hot weather can be a health risk to us all. Here are some tips on how to stay safe during periods of hot weather.

Limit exposure to direct sunlight from 10am to 4pm.

Wear a hat.

Use sun cream SPF30 or more.

Stay hydrated with water.

We have been working hard to ensure you get the care you need.

In June 2025 we delivered a total of 4573 appointments. 2282 were face to face appointments and 2291 were telephone appointments. Our team answered 3641 telephone calls and there were 455 FICS same day appointments carried out.

Unfortunately 67 patients did not attend their appointments. Please let us know in plenty of time if you are unable to attend so that the slot can be given to someone else who needs it.

We are a two site practice so please ensure you attend the correct location. This will be confirmed in the reminder message that you will receive prior to your appointment.

From 1st July 2025 the UK Government will implement changes to the childhood vaccination schedule, for infants born on or after 1st July 2024. This change is to give infants the best protection when they need it.

8, 12 & 16 WEEK OLD BABIES
The Meningococcal serogroup B (MenB) will be offered at 8 & 12 weeks instead of 8 & 16 weeks. The pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) will now be offered at 16 weeks instead of 12 weeks. This is to reduce the number of injections needed at the 12 week vaccinations.

ONE YEAR OLD INFANTS
If your child was born on or before 30th June 2024 - MMR (1st dose), pneumococcal (2nd dose), MenB (3rd dose) and Hib/MenC vaccines will be given. They will receive their MMR (2nd dose) at 3 years and 4 months.
If your child was born on or after 1st July 2024 - MMR (1st dose), Pneumococcal (2nd dose) and MenB (3rd dose) vaccines given. These children will receive their MMR (2nd dose) at the new 18 month appointment, where they will also be given 6-in-1 vaccine (4th dose).

3 YEARS AND 4 MONTHS
Children born on or before 30th June 2024 will receive MMR (2nd dose), in addition to 4-in-1 pre-school booster which will be given to all children.

Where applicable, additional vaccination pages will be added to the Red Book. Please do not remove any existing pages.

Changes to Cervical Screening Recalls

From 1st July 2025 all women and people with a cervix aged 25-64 who test NEGATIVE for HPV will be recalled at 5 yearly intervals.

If you test POSITIVE for HPV but with no abnormal cell changes in the cervix, you will be invited again in 1 year.

If you test POSITIVE for HPV and there are abnormal cell changes in the cervix, you will be referred to the hospital for a colposcopy.

If you’re 65 or older, you’ll only be invited if a recent test was abnormal.

You will be invited via the NHS App, text or letter. You can book an appointment as soon as you are invited. If you have missed your last screening, you do not need to wait for an invitation to book an appointment.

If you are a trans man or are non-binary and have a cervix, how you are invited will depend on the s*x registered with your GP surgery.
- If you’re registered as female with the GP, you will automatically be invited.
- If you’re registered as anything other than female (eg: male or indeterminate) you will need to opt-in for cervical screening invitations. This can be done through your GP, s*xual health service or transgender health clinic.

More information can be found at:

You may have seen recent media coverage about Tirzepatide (also known as Mounjaro), an injectable medication for weight loss.

The medication has now been approved for NHS use in England, however we are currently waiting for official guidance on how and when we can prescribe this medication in general practice.

Whilst we wait for the pathway to be launched, we are unable to prescribe Mounjaro, or any other injections for weight loss, at the current time. We are not operating any wait list. As soon as we receive clear protocols and guidance, we will provide an update on our website.

The current Tirzepatide eligibility criteria set out nationally is:

* A BMI of 40 or more
plus Four or more of the following diagnosed conditions:

* Type 2 diabetes

* High blood pressure (hypertension)

* Cardiovascular disease

* Obstructive sleep apnoea

* Dyslipidaemia

You don’t need to wait for new treatments to become available, there is already help at hand. Free local weight loss support programmes are available through One You Surrey. This service can help you take steps towards a healthier weight right away.

Visit their website www.oneyousurrey.org.uk for more details on how you can self-refer to one of their programmes.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
