Did you see us in Farnham yesterday? 💜

The Kindness Exchange is our local community initiative that encourages people to pause, breathe and reconnect with simple acts of kindness both towards others and towards themselves.

Sometimes a kind word, a thoughtful note or a brief moment of reflection can make all the difference to how we feel.

At our stall we handed out self-care pocket books. If you missed us, this article is an extension of it with simple tools and thoughtful reminders to support your wellbeing. Here you will find practical ways to look after your mental health: https://theeaves.org.uk/the-kindness-exchange-a-guide-to-caring-for-yourself-and-others/

☀️🌺 A fabulous morning at the Farnham Farmers’ Market!

If you were down there today, you’ll know exactly what we mean — great stalls, brilliant local produce, and that unmistakable Farnham buzz.

What made it even more special was The Eaves Counselling & Psychology and their Kindness Exchange board. Dozens of colourful handwritten notes from our own neighbours, each one offering a little boost — reminders that you matter, that you’re loved, and that it’s okay to take things one step at a time.

Now it’s time to fire up the BBQ and get those market burgers on. Perfect way to round off a cracking sunny Sunday.

Ever notice yourself being reactive in a relationship and thinking ‘why did I just say that?’

Book review by Bridget Walford (Counsellor, Supervisor and Owner of The Eaves):

“In life we will always find relationships that trouble us but may not always understand why. This book, following the story of the childhood classic, Wind in the Willows, clearly and simply explains my model of therapy, Transactional Analysis. So if you ever feel yourself having a child-like response ‘its not fair’ or ‘why can’t you just do as I ask?’ Then the chances are, this book might help you understand why this is.”

When your brain won’t slow down and everything feels too loud…

Try the 5–4–3–2–1 grounding technique.👇For Neurodiversity Week, we’re sharing simple tools that support different minds in different moments.

When you’re anxious or overstimulated, your nervous system shifts into fight-or-flight. This technique redirects your focus to your senses, helping regulate your body, slow your breathing and quiet spiralling thoughts.

A small reset. A steady breath. One moment at a time 💜

Mother’s Day doesn’t look the same for everyone 🌷

For some, it’s full of warmth and gratitude. For others it can stir grief, distance or complicated memories. Often, it can be a mix of many feelings at once.

Today, we’re mindful of those navigating relationships that are beautiful, sometimes strained, painful or somewhere in between.

If someone comes to mind, let them know you’re thinking of them. A small message can mean more than you realise.

As the seasons change, it’s common to notice shifts in mood and energy 🌱

To help you understand and navigate these changes, CBT therapist Baskaran from Healing Mind has shared insights into Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and practical ways to support yourself:

Notice Your Patterns: Tune into how your mood changes with the seasons

Gentle Light & Movement: Get outside when you can and keep moving

Keep Routines: Regular sleep, meals and tasks can help

Be Kind to Yourself: It’s normal to feel different at different times of year

📍Baskaran practices at our Godalming practice on Monday evenings.

The mind-body solution to help your chronic anxiety

Book Review by Holly O’Neill (Counsellor & Psychotherapist at The Eaves):

“A book I often recommend to clients who are struggling with anxiety.

It offers a fresh, holistic perspective rather than viewing anxiety as purely a mental issue, Dr. Kennedy suggests that it often arises from unresolved trauma held in the body - what he calls a “somatic alarm” Healing, he argues, involves reconnecting the mind and body.

This aligns closely with my own therapeutic approach. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, I work with clients to explore the underlying causes of their anxiety, including the roles of trauma, the nervous system and bodily sensations.”

The Anxiety Prescription: The revolutionary mind-body solution to healing your chronic anxiety by Dr Russell Kennedy - Anxiety MD
