Today is which is all about spreading awareness about sepsis and the symptoms to be aware of so I’m re-sharing a previous post of mine 🧡

Sepsis (also known as blood poisoning) is the immune system’s overreaction to an infection or injury. Normally our immune system fights infection – but sometimes, for reasons we don’t yet understand, it attacks our body’s own organs and tissues. If not treated immediately, sepsis can result in organ failure and death. Yet with early diagnosis, it can be treated with antibiotics. ()

Please read the symptoms above and share and save this post. Always trust your instinct as a parent and just ask…could it be sepsis?

Today is National Lollipop Day 🍭
But have you thought about the risk they pose to your children? Lollipops are a huge choking hazard as they can easily come off of the stick and completely block the airway.

Along with hard boiled sweets they shouldn’t be given to young children.

My kids think I’m such a grinch for not letting them buy lollipops at the sweet shop and it’s so hard when they’re so often given out in party bags 🤦🏻‍♀️

Hello everyone! I’ve been a little bit MIA lately so I thought I’d introduce myself!

🧡 I’m Charlotte - a mum of 3 lovely young children, aged 6, 4 and almost 2! They’re all very spirited and strong minded so they keep me very busy 🤪🥰

🧡 I’m married to a wonderful man who has zero patience but is so supportive and we’re all very grateful for him ❤️

🧡 I’m a Deputy Sister on a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) where I care for very premature and sick newborn babies. I’ve been doing this for over 12 years now plus 3 years as a student nurse and healthcare assistant prior to that. Part of my role is being in the resuscitation team in which I teach newborn and basic life support to nurses, midwives and doctors ⛑️

🧡 Another part of my role is being a part of the neonatal transport team in which we move babies between hospitals via an ambulance 🚑

🧡 In my spare time I love going to gigs and travelling abroad - both of which I did far more of pre kids and pre Covid! I also love nothing more than a day at the beach with my family 🏖️

🧡 I’m OBSESSED with dachshunds - we had one called Frank who sadly passed away in 2021. We all miss him so much and would love to get another little sausage when the time is right 🌭🐶

🧡 Due to developing a passion for hands on life support training I always knew I’d like to start my own first aid teaching company - so here it is, Little Blossom First Aid 🧡

🧡 Stayed tuned as I will finally have some public venue Baby & Child First Aid Workshops live to book very soon! 🧡

Happy Good Friday everybody! I hope you all have a lovely weekend whatever you have planned 🐣

Have you thought about the types of eggs you’ll be giving your children this weekend? Mini eggs and small solid filled eggs are a huge choking risk for young children due to their size and how hard they are. Mini eggs actually have a warning on the back of the packet stating that they are not suitable for children under the age of 4 ❌

So please be mindful this weekend when giving out Easter eggs or doing egg hunts and use hollow eggs for younger children - save the mini eggs for yourselves!! 🧡

When practical hands on teaching works! This little one started gagging before going purple and silent with signs that he was struggling to breathe - this dad was present and was able to recognise that these were clear signs of choking and knew EXACTLY how to respond! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Would you know how to recognise the difference between gagging and choking? And would you know how to respond if your baby or child was choking?

Video demonstrations and face to face classes coming soon! 🧡

Yesterday I listened to the heartbreaking story of and on the podcast. They talked about their daughter Maude who sadly died at the age of 2 and a half from sepsis and they are sharing their story tonight on ITV at 9pm in ‘Jason & Clara: In memory of Maudie’.

This week is and this year the incredible is focusing on co-sleeping! You may ignore this post if you haven’t yet or don’t plan to co-sleep with your baby, BUT did you know that 91% of parents who co-slept didn’t plan to before having their baby?! And 9 out of 10 parents will co-sleep with their baby at some point. We may not like to admit it but that’s a lot of us! I definitely didn’t plan to co-sleep but there were many times when my 3 were babies that I did. So it’s best to be prepared as to how to co-sleep safely to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) 🧡

How to keep your bed safe for co-sleeping…
🌙 Keep pillows and bedding away from your baby
🌙 Lay your baby flat on their back on a firm and flat mattress (do not lay your baby on anything else, ie. on top of the duvet)
🌙 Don’t let other children or pets sleep in the bed at the same time
🌙 Ensure your baby can’t get wedged, trapped or fall out of bed
🌙 And never leave your baby unattended in your bed

Co-sleeping is dangerous if…
❌ Your baby was born prematurely (premature birth is classed as before 37 weeks gestation) or weighed less than 2.5kg at birth
❌ If you or your partner have drunk alcohol or taken drugs or medication that may make you less aware
❌ If you or your partner smoke

Please check out my stories for more resources 🧡

🧡 C O M I N G S O O N 🧡
Hello to my already lovely group of followers! I can’t wait to introduce myself soon and get started with teaching wonderful courses that I’m very passionate about! Here are a few things about me…

🧡 My name is Charlotte and I’m a mum to 3 young children - they’re VERY cute but also VERY full on - which I’m sure some of you can relate to 🤪

🧡 I’m a Deputy Sister on a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) where I care for some of the smallest premature and sick term newborn babies. These babies may be tiny but they’re the strongest and bravest little people, and I’ve had the true privilege of caring for them for the last 12 years.

🧡 I’m hugely passionate about education and knowledge and truly believe that having practical hands on experience is the best way to learn - I’m confident that my courses will help parents and carers to feel empowered and to know what to do should an emergency situation arise.

I will be offering a variety of courses in the Surrey and Hampshire area, such as…

🧡 Baby & Child First Aid
🧡 Paediatric First Aid
🧡 First Aid at Work
🧡 Mini Medics

So please get in touch today and I look forward to hearing from you! 🧡
