Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain and it happens when the tissue supporting the arch of the foot becomes inflamed.

Three mistakes people often make:

❌ Pushing through the pain
Continuing high-impact exercise can worsen the inflammation.
❌ Walking barefoot at home
Lack of arch support can place additional strain on the plantar fascia.
❌ Ignoring the symptoms
Early treatment can prevent the condition from becoming chronic.

Small changes like supportive footwear, stretching and rest can help reduce strain on the foot.

If heel pain persists, it’s always best to have it assessed.

Ingrown toenails can quickly become painful, swollen and even infected.

They are often caused by:
• Cutting nails too short
• Tight footwear
• Injury to the nail
• Natural nail shape

If your toe is red, swollen or painful, it’s best to have it assessed early.

Our podiatrists can treat ingrown toenails safely and help prevent them from returning.
Relief can often be much quicker than people expect.

Toe injuries happen more often than people think but it can be hard to know whether it’s just bruised or actually fractured.

Signs your toe could be broken include:
• Severe bruising or swelling
• Pain when putting weight on your foot
• The toe pointing in an unusual direction

In many cases, rest and protecting the toe will help it heal, but if the pain continues or the toe looks misaligned, it’s important to have it assessed by a professional.

Your feet carry you everywhere — they deserve proper care.

Many people go from winter inactivity straight into long walks as soon as spring arrives — and that’s when problems start.
Your feet need gradual exposure to increased activity, just like the rest of your body.

Try this approach instead:
• Increase distance slowly over 2–3 weeks
• Stretch calves and feet after walking
• Alternate walking days with rest days
• Pay attention to “new” aches — they’re signals, not weaknesses

Heel pain, arch soreness and tendon strain often develop when activity increases too quickly.

Spring should feel energising — not painful.

Early spring is when we see a spike in:

• Blisters and pressure points
• Arch strain
• Heel and ankle pain

Why?
Many spring shoes lack structure, cushioning and support — especially ballet flats, slip-ons and unsupportive trainers.

When choosing spring footwear, look for:
✔ A supportive sole that doesn’t bend in half
✔ A secure heel (not slipping when you walk)
✔ Enough depth across the toes

If you’re unsure whether your shoes are supporting or stressing your feet, we can help.

Before you increase your walking, running or gym routine this spring, it’s worth understanding how your feet move.

A biomechanical assessment looks at:
• Foot posture and alignment
• How you walk and distribute pressure
• Muscle balance and joint movement
• The cause behind recurring aches or fatigue

This is especially useful if you’ve previously experienced:
• Plantar fasciitis
• Knee or hip pain
• Lower-back discomfort
• Repeated niggles when you become more active

Spring is the ideal time to correct small imbalances before they become injuries.

As the days get lighter and we start moving more, your feet go through a big transition too.
After months of boots, thick socks and reduced movement, we often see:

• Dry or cracked heels
• Stiff ankles and tight calves
• Hard skin build-up
• Low-level aches that weren’t there in autumn

These early signs are your body’s way of saying it’s time for a reset.

A simple spring foot check can help catch small issues before they turn into pain that limits walking, exercise or daily comfort.

Think of it as an MOT for your feet — especially if you’re planning to be more active as the weather improves.
