Meet Sandra – A Talented Artist and Dedicated participant

Today was a truly lovely experience as we had the pleasure of accompanying our client, Sandra, to the Creative Response exhibition — an inspiring event showcasing the work of many talented individuals.

Sandra is not only a gifted artist but also a compassionate person who sews clothes for premature babies. As a valued member of the Creative Response community, she also writes heartfelt poetry and creates beautiful visual art. Her work was proudly displayed on the exhibition wall, and her poems are featured in a collective book created by the group.

All proceeds from the book go to the Creative Response charity, which supports individuals with mental health conditions and disabilities by helping them engage in meaningful activities, build confidence, and connect socially.

We’re incredibly proud to support Sandra as she continues to explore her passions, share her creativity, and stay engaged in the community.

When we founded Sylvian Care Farnham, we knew we were entering a space that’s not just professional — it’s deeply personal. Our background in care had already shown us that this work is rooted in trust, empathy, and genuine human connection. Care isn’t just a service; it’s a relationship.

That’s why being named one of the Top 20 Home Care Providers in South East England by Homecare.co.uk — out of 2,075 providers — is such an honour. It recognises the dedication, the challenges, and all the quiet wins we’ve experienced alongside our incredible team and the families we support.

From the beginning, we set out to build a team who would deliver care with compassion and integrity. We’re proud to say that’s exactly what we’ve done. And even as Directors, we’ve stayed closely involved with our clients, making sure that every care experience reflects our values and commitment.

This award is a shared achievement. It belongs to every carer who goes above and beyond, every client who’s welcomed us into their lives, and every family who’s placed their trust in us. We’re deeply grateful — and more committed than ever to continue growing with heart, purpose, and community at the core of everything we do.

Every kind word shared is more than a compliment.

It's a reflection of trust.
And we never take that lightly.

We’re honored to hear from the people and families we support.

Their feedback reminds us why we do what we do:
- To build real connections.
- To provide care that comforts.
- To make a difference, one person at a time.

Thank you for letting us be part of your journey.

We’re always listening, and always learning.

We aren’t meant to go through life alone. šŸ¤

Mental Health Awareness Week 2025 is here, because this year, it's all about Community. šŸ§ šŸ’™
Because community heals.

When we feel supported, seen, and part of something greater than ourselves, our mental health thrives.

At Sylvian Care, we know that strong communities don’t just happen.

They're built through
- Compassion
- Trust
and showing up for each other, especially when it’s hard.

This week, we’re celebrating the power of community and encouraging everyone to reach out, check in, and remind someone they’re not alone.

Whether it's a neighbourly chat,
a shared laugh,
or lending a listening ear,
together, we create safe spaces to grow, heal, and belong.

As we age, our bodies become more vulnerable, and urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a common, painful problem for many elderly people.

The good news?
Simple daily habits can make a big difference. šŸ›”ļø
Here’s how to help ↓
1ļø Stay hydrated
→ Water helps flush out bacteria.
2ļø Maintain proper hygiene
→ Hand, food, and intimate hygiene are essential.
3ļø Encourage regular bathroom visits
→ Emptying the bladder often reduces infection risks.
4ļø Manage urinary incontinence
→ Use high-quality adult diapers to protect dignity and health.
5ļø Avoid harsh hygiene products
→ Skip the strong soaps and fragrant washes.
6ļø Limit bladder irritants
→ Cut back on caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods.
šŸ’” Prevention is easier and much gentler than treatment.

Closure isn't real. Grief doesn't end, it just changes shape.

Grief's purpose isn't to cause pain.
It's to keep the memory of our loved ones alive.

It's a reminder to cherish the time we had and to make the most of the time we have.

"Moving on" means gaining perspective - not forgetting.

Dementia brings a unique kind of grief.

We mourn the loss of our loved ones while they're still with us.

We grieve the loss of countless small things too.

-The recipe that can't be remembered.
-The story that can't be told.
-The look of recognition that becomes less frequent.

We're saying goodbye to something familiar every day.

A routine. A habit. A silly joke. A song. Something.

But in that slow goodbye, there are still gifts.

Moments of unexpected lucidity. The squeeze of a hand.

Being able to be in each other's presence is a gift by itself.

In cherishing what remains and honouring what we've lost...

This is how we carry both love and grief.

As a bond that goes beyond even memory.

When it comes to care, one size doesn’t fit all. But here’s what many families are realising: Most elderly people don’t want to leave their home. And they shouldn’t have to. For many, home isn’t just a place, it’s where their memories live.
-Their favourite chair.
-The smell of their garden.
-Their beloved pet sleeping by their feet.
These aren’t small things. They’re anchors. And here’s what surprises a lot of people:

Home care is often more affordable than nursing homes. Care at home can grow with your needs. Start small, 10 hours a week. Increase as needed. You’re not locked into a facility or a fixed routine. Home care offers freedom, familiarity, and dignity - on your terms.

Would your loved one want to stay at home if they had the choice? šŸ” Share this with someone making care decisions right now. šŸ”” Follow us for more insights on ageing care.

Supporting a Loved One with Dementia

Dementia changes someone you love—but your care still matters.

1. It’s not your fault

Confusion and anger come from the illness

You’re doing your best

2. Routines help

Mornings are best for activities

Rest is important

Small steps are wins

3. Guilt is common

Breaks make you stronger

Ask for help—it’s okay

Your health matters

4. Connect with love

Join their world, don’t correct

Look at photos together

Play their favorite music

5. You’re not alone

Talk to care professionals

Accept help when it’s offered

Rest is part of good care

Take care of yourself. You matter, too. ā™„ļø
