Everyone's birth can be amazing πŸ’₯. It can be enjoyable❀. You can look back fondly and immensely proud of yourself no matter the route. πŸ’

You can have that too.

πŸ’₯Why didn't I realise this in my 20's!!πŸ’₯

Yep, I tried to get people to like me who were not good for me. I didn't dance to the beat of my own drum.

It didn't work. It never does.

Now I am in tune with myself, being myself. And it has led me to people who are incredible. Truely helping eachother be our own people. Happier. Healthier. No effort amazing connections.

It also led me to Hypnobirthing and more than ever in birth you have to be in tune with yourself and your growing baby. Listen to your instincts. Surround yourself with people who bring you positivity and good vibes only.

When you are parents your free time is so limited, surround yourself with goodness and always beat to your own drum.

What would you tell yourself?? Or what would you tell your child...πŸ‘‡ share with me below 😘

It is and here is mine. My baby boy Zachary.

The trauma of baby loss is so unbelievably complex. It takes away all joy in a situation that should be so overwhelmingly happy. With Zach I had prenatal depression as a result, and I could not and did not look forward to any scan or appointment. I was full of dread and worry. Not allowing myself the hope that this baby would be mine. But he was.

Our little Poppy didn't make it, she will never be replaced but without our loss we would never have had Zach. What a rollercoaster of emotions in itself.

One of the main things that got me through honestly was hypnobirthing. Using relaxation and breathing to overcome my overwhelming negativity. It helped so much. The other was counciling and talking therapy. I was so sure it wouldnt help and it really did.

Anyone who has gone through loss, or going through it. You are not alone, reach out and talk to anyone you can. My DMs are open..... πŸ₯°

Birth trauma is easier to avoid than you think...

Many say they feel trauma because they feel out of control, they did not know their options and they did not feel they could make informed decisions in the moment.

You can change that NOW by knowing everything that could happen during birth. This is not a scary, negative thing to do. It is empowering and helps you write a great birth plan to help you, your partner and your team.

So what are the options:
1. 🀰🏽 VAGINAL birth
This can be completely without any pain relief 🌱 or with:
🌬Gas and Air
πŸ’ŠOpiates
πŸ’‰ Epidural

You may also need assistance in a vaginal birth so the doctor will use:
πŸ₯’ forceps
🧲 ventouse

The doctor may also need to give you a cut to assist in getting the baby out. This is optional and you can choose not to have this but if you do have it, in some cases it is called an episiotomy βœ‚οΈ

The other route in birthing your baby is:
2. 🀱 A CESAREAN.
This is surgery to get the baby out through your tummy. A belly birth. It can be planned, unplanned or an emergency.

In this case you do have to have an πŸ’‰ epidural. You can opt to have a gentle cesarean πŸ¦Έβ€β™€οΈ

Do you understand the risks and benefits of each of the options and paths I have listed.

Have you birthed your baby?πŸ‘ΆπŸΌ

Share how your birth path went using the emojis above in the comments πŸ‘‡πŸ» lets normalise ALL birth. You are all superhuman ###x

MY BABY IS BREECH!???

Your baby's position is mentioned from VERY early on, as early as 20 weeks you may be told the position of your baby. At this gestation, your baby is likely not in the position for birth. Your baby is likely in position for birth at around 36 weeks, this is when they generally stop moving as space becomes pretty limited!

But what do these positions mean and should you be concerned??

"Usual position for birth"
This is where your baby is head down, facing left or right, with their back to either side. Their head will be as engaged as possible with the cervix and is the most usual position for birth.

"Back to back"
This is where your baby is still head down, however, their back and spine is against your spine. The baby's head still has great engagement with the cervix, not as powerful as the usual position but still very good, especially with upright, forward, and open positions.
This does not have any impact on the way you birth your baby. The big difference however is that you may feel "surges" exclusively in your back. When your birth begins it may be felt in your back, not in your uterus. Tens machine and birth partner applying pressure to your back can really help. So can water - so a shower, or bath, or birthing pool can alleviate any discomfort.

"Breech"
Breech is where your baby is head up, feet, or bum down.
Breech babies are pretty rare with only 4% of baby's born breech. When a baby is breech they are encouraged to turn. At 37 weeks you will be offered an ECV where the doctor will try and manipulate your baby from the outside. It can be uncomfortable for both you and baby and is successful 60% of the time. You can also try acupuncture or reflexology (successful 70%) or hypnosis (successful 80% of the time)!!!
You can also make sure you are in upright forward and open positions - bouncing on your birthing ball is great to encourage good positioning, pregnancy yoga has fantastic positions to help and try not to sit back with your pelvis tipped backwards too much - so limit the slouching, and sit upright!
If your baby is breech it does not mean you have to follow a certain birth plan, you can still birth vaginally. Take a look at breech baby births on youtube! Another fantastic resource for encouraging your baby to turn is

So any position you can still have the birth you want, don't fear it. In some cases baby knows best and you need to trust in your body and your baby.

And here he is...

Introducing Zachary William Chetwode Barton. The most precious little boy.

Born at home in the pool in a very comfortable 4 hour 20 minute birth in the night (even though he was a whopper at 9llb 10!!!). His big sis sleeping upstairs none the wiser, who joined us 10 minutes after birth to do skin to skin with her brand new baby brother.

The experience was pretty magical. I cannot wait to tell you all the full birth story. It was so powerful and I felt every bit super human throughout the whole experience.

πŸ’–BREATHING DURING BIRTH CAN BE THE BEST FORM OF PAIN RELIEF!πŸ’–

But how do you do it??

It is really simple but does need practice so that on birthday breathing is second nature.

So lie or sit in a comfortable position.
Relax your face, let your shoulders drop, focus on your breathing.

Breathe in for 4, slowly. Breathe out for 6. Repeat this over and over. Continuing to focus on your breath.

At first, you will find it hard to focus. Your mind may wander to activities to do that day, how it is not relaxing. This is why practice is crucial.

When doing your breathing you can bring visualisations into it. Take yourself to your happy place. Really be there. What can you see, smell, hear? How does it feel?

When you have got the hang of it bring in some essential oils, one that makes you relax, check they are pregnancy safe and use that oil each time you practice, this will create a strong association that will help on birthday.

Does it all sound a load of rubbish? How can breathing help pain? But it REALLY does and of everyone I teach, 100% say breathing was crucial in getting them through, so what do you have to lose?

Did you find breathing helpful? Any tips for first-time expectant parents?

πŸ’– BIRTHING BALLS πŸ’–

Your best friend during pregnancy and birth.

But why?

A birthing ball can help make birth more comfortable (especially if you use it for a couple of months before you give birth), decrease anxiety and shorten the first stage of birth. Using a birthing ball can also help you adopt different upright positions (UFO), which can help you to birth effectively.

But don’t think you have to wait until birth to use a birthing ball. A ball can also help relieve pain and pressure in the months or weeks leading up to delivery.

Sitting on the couch, a chair, or any flat surface can be uncomfortable during pregnancy. The curve of a birthing ball might relieve pressure in your pelvis, lower back, and spine.

Sitting on the ball in an upright position can also encourage the opening of your pelvic muscles, allowing room for the baby to descend into the pelvis in preparation for birth.

In one 2013 study, 203 pregnant women admitted to the hospital in active labour completed 30 minutes of birthing ball exercises. When researchers measured their pain and anxiety levels after the exercises, the women reported significant improvements.😍

Did you use a birthing ball? Would you recommend it? I personally LOVE it and it will be my go to during birth!

🀰🏼 ARE YOU PREGNANT?? πŸ’–

Can you tell by any of these early signs?

πŸŽ‡ Your b***s ache. This one is a big one for many. Giving someone a hug, ooooo you feel it. They ache and grow in the first trimester very quickly, you will soon be increasing your bra size, everyone is different but sometimes by several cup sizes.

🀒 Nausea and morning sickness. Unfortunately, it is not just for the morning. You can feel it any time of day. Check out our reels for great ways to relieve morning sickness and nausea and be more comfortable.

πŸ’¦ You wee more often. It can get very annoying. Particularly at night. More trips to the loo can mean you are growing a little one!

😴 Tiredness and fatigue. This can be all-encompassing. Your body is growing a human and most vital organs are grown in the first 12 weeks, it is exhausting. Make sure you nap often if you can and allow yourself time in your social schedule to rest.

πŸ™„ Smell sensitivity. Your sense of smell is heightened and you can smell things more intensely. This can be great when you are cooking a delicious meal but it can increase your nausea if it is too overpowering, or has a particularly bad smell.

πŸ’– The biggest and only exact sign is your missed period. You may miss a period and get some period-style cramping and even slight spotting. This can be the egg implanting in the uterus wall and is very normal but any heavy bleeding or intense cramps do see your doctor.

Have you experienced all of these or few? Everyone's journey is different, remember to not compare yourself.

If you were running a marathon you would trainπŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ, if you were playing a gig you would rehearse 🎷, if you were sitting an exam you would revise πŸ“—, so WHY OH WHY would you not train, practice and learn about birth!???? One of the biggest experiences of your life! πŸ™„

πŸŽ‡ GROWING A BABY is one of the most intense experiences of life. πŸŽ‡

Everything changes....

There are the obvious things like body changes - not just your belly growing but your shape, I don't recognise certain bits of my anatomy as my own, and heck I can't even see some of them anymore!!!!

But your mindset and mental change.

Your perception of the world shifts instantly. Every bone and cell in your body is now programmed to protect this little being, and it does a great job from day 1.

Your ability to do things - mentally and physically. When bigger it is so hard to not do some of the things that you enjoyed doing before. For me long walks are too hard and leave me with such aches and pains. Sitting at a desk and working hours on end is no longer possible without 15 different position changes. Hard core HIIT exercise is off the agenda and I struggled to get into a downward dog the other day! When you physically can't do things you enjoy, you stop work, which is 3/4 of your "being" (or is for some), you can wonder where your identity is going but this change is magical. You are about to become a parent. It is hard, but so was learning your first job, or figuring out how to do a new skill. Everything from now on you will be learning on the job. Be kind to yourself, you are growing as a person, as your little one is too :-)

😍

In the LALALU antenatal course we talk through all things wellbeing as it is so important to prepare physically AND mentally for this new adventure.

YOUR PARTNER IS CRUCIAL TO YOUR BIRTH...they can make the difference between trauma and a positive experience πŸŽ‡

I have so many people asking if their partner needs to be involved in birth prep. YES!!! THEY DO!! And they are so key!

SO why??

😍 Your birth partner is the person you trust the most, who better to make you feel safe, calm, and protected.
😍 In the moment you can forget how to breathe and how to relax. Your birth partner is crucial in helping you remember how to relax
😍 Your birth partner completely controls your environment. They protect your bubble, ensuring you can focus on birth and do not get any stress during the experience
😍 Your birth partner ensures you eat and drink enough, critical in ensuring your uterus muscles work effectively and efficiently.

Your birth partner needs to fully understand how birth works to support you. You got this as a team. It is the most empowering experience to go through this together.

YOU BOTH GOT THIS!
