Tight muscles in the suboccipital area (the muscles just below the base of your skull) are commonly linked to tension headaches. These muscles can become stiff or contracted due to stress, poor posture, or prolonged sitting.
When the suboccipital muscles tighten, they can put pressure on nerves and blood vessels, leading to a dull, aching pain in the head, especially around the temples or the back of the skull.
Tension headaches are often caused by this muscle tension and can last from a few hours to several days.
Managing the tension in these muscles through stretching, massage, or relaxation techniques can help relieve headache symptoms.
