The Cervical Spine

It is made up of 6 palpable vertebrae with the 7th top vertebra being un palpable.

The two top vertebrae are responsible for a lot of the movement seen in the neck. They are responsible for movements such as rotation, flexion, extension and lateral movements. Each section of the cervical spine has a different anatomy.

The top two vertebrae (C1 and C2) are both anatomically unique. C1 is also known as the atlas. Approximately 50% of flexion and extension happens between the occiput (base of the skull) and C1

C2 is also known as the Axis, approximately 50% of neck rotation happens at C1/C2. The body of the atlas and the axis bone are fused together and work together to create the movements. Lateral movement at the neck almost entirely comes from the Atlas/Axis joint

C3-C6 are all anatomically similar and work together to provide structure and movement in the neck

C7 is anatomically different to allow for it to comfortably make the Cervicothoracic junction with T1. There is a larger range of movement in the neck in comparison to the thoracic spine.

🤔 Thoughtful Thursday 🤔

Fit At Any Age
Let's talk about the body and the mind and all the things that flow between them which make you.
And what are we talking about?
Well, we are talking about You.
And that you are Chemical, Emotional, and Physical.
That's right; you are made up of all of these three parts, and if you want to be better, then you need to address all three.

We will work on your mind and the emotional states that your mind makes you experience every day.
And with practice, you can achieve whatever state you want to be in.
