At Beritaz Care, we have seen firsthand the special moments that happen when generations come together and the wonderful bonds that are formed. Through various activities, our residents have had the opportunity to get to know people of all ages, sharing conversations and discovering the things they have in common. This week is Global Intergenerational Week, a fantastic campaign that shines a light on the importance of connecting people of all ages to encourage shared experiences and intergenerational friendships. 💕

Many of our homes have close relationships with local schools, which means residents enjoy visits from school pupils or trips to nurseries to visit the children there. We have also been able to offer work experience opportunities for secondary school pupils and college students who want to gain experience of life in a care home. The time our residents have spent with these pupils has been a wonderful experience for everyone involved. The joy and enthusiasm the young people display is infectious, and our residents light up around them. It has also been lovely to see the children enjoy learning from our residents, listening to their stories and asking them questions about their lives.

We have been delighted to welcome several young volunteers to our homes. They have been helping residents to get involved with activities, or sometimes simply sitting with them to have a chat. Some residents have even discovered shared passions with volunteers, including one pair who spent time playing the piano together at Robertson Nursing Home. Being able to enjoy a hobby with someone who shares that passion has been truly wonderful for them both.

Residents of Springkell House Care Home have had the chance to take part in the ‘adopt a grandparent’ initiative, bringing together volunteers from all over the world with the elderly community to build new relationships. One of our residents has enjoyed several video calls with a young volunteer, where they have had a lovely time chatting about all sorts of things and sharing stories about their lives. This has been a really valuable experience for the residents, and it is lovely to know our residents can provide companionship for young people who are missing that familial bond from a grandparent.

Throughout all these activities, it has been wonderful to witness the bonds develop between the residents and these young people and how much they all gain from these experiences. The interactions they share are heartwarming to see and demonstrate the importance of intergenerational connections. There are so many things that link these generations, and so much they have learned from each other; the time spent with the young people has meant a great deal to our residents.

We recently took a trip with some of our residents to visit a local garden centre to get some inspiration for our spring gardening. 🚐 🌻

The garden centre is one of our residents’ favourite places to visit in the local area. There is so much to see, from flowers and plants to garden décor and gifts, and their lovely seasonal displays. The residents enjoyed looking at all the flowers and plants; Ray even tried on a pair of shades, which looked great on him. After the residents finished their window shopping, we headed to the café for a hot drink and a slice of cake. 🍰☕️

It was a lovely outing, and our residents really enjoyed exploring the garden centre. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Continuing with the flower and plant-themed activities, some of our residents spent some time peacefully arranging flowers. 💐

Flower arranging is a very enjoyable and relaxing activity for many of our residents and a lovely way to spend an afternoon. The lovely floral arrangements that the residents created were then proudly displayed, bringing some added colour and beauty to various corners of the home.

We are looking forward to seeing our garden filled with flowers as they grow this summer, but until then, this is a great way to bring some nature inside the home.

At this time of year, one activity our residents love getting involved with is gardening. 🪏🌷 Recently, residents have been sowing seeds ready to plant outside this summer.

They have planted a variety of beans and garden peas, which they can’t wait to watch shoot up over the coming weeks. The residents will be happy to lend a hand in picking and harvesting these later in the year, ready for our chefs to cook up for everyone to enjoy.

As well as vegetables, we have been planting some pansy seeds in loving memory of Susan Davies. We can’t wait to see these colourful flowers filling the garden in her honour, knowing they will bring so much joy to everyone at the home.

Next month, some of our fantastic Ashton Manor team members will be taking on a sponsored walk in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society. 🥾

They will be tackling a 13-mile trek around London to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society. This is a cause very close to our hearts, and we are happy to do our part to support the Alzheimer’s Society. We see how Alzheimer’s and dementia have impacted our residents and their families, and therefore understand the importance of the work the Alzheimer’s Society does, not only the support they give to those affected by Alzheimer’s, but also the vital research they carry out into the disease.

Our staff members have been getting ready to take on this challenge in just a few weeks and we can’t wait to cheer them on! 📣

Any donations, large or small, would be greatly appreciated to help our team reach our fundraising goal. Click here to sponsor: https://www.justgiving.com/page/ashtonmanorwalkingteam?utm_medium=FA&utm_source=OF

It’s been a busy start to spring for the residents of Ashton Manor, with lots of activities taking place in the home and the chance to start enjoying the warmer weather outside in the garden.

We have enjoyed visits from the brilliant Dusty Tracks band, delighting our residents with fantastic renditions of some of their favourite songs. Our residents love having the chance to sing and dance along. 🎶

There have also been plenty of opportunities to take part in our regular calendar of activities, organised by our fantastic activities team. The residents had a great time coming together for a chat over a delicious afternoon tea. And, of course, we have been making the most of the sunny days and warm spring weather by spending time outdoors in the gardens of Ashton Manor, seeing all the plants start to bloom once again and the wildlife reappear. 🌷

We have lots of fun activities and outings planned for spring and summer and can’t wait to continue enjoying the sunny seasons with the Ashton Manor residents.

Animals can bring so much comfort, companionship, and joy to our lives, and we have seen the positive impact time spent with animals has had on our residents. Discover how our residents benefit from time spent with their four-legged friends, from the relaxing impact of animal therapy to the positive impact of animal companionship. Plus, find out how much our residents enjoy learning about animal care, and how we incorporate pets and animals into reminiscence activities, all in our latest blog.

The Ashton Manor walking team have been busy training to take on their 13-mile trek around London next month! The team are taking part in the sponsored walk to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society, a cause very close to our hearts.

And guess what… thanks to your generous support and donations, they have already exceeded their fundraising target! 🥳

The team have spent the last few weeks hitting the gym or walking to work to get their steps in, setting themselves goals and giving each other lots of encouragement. 🥾🤩

Recently, the team got together for a hike around Caesar’s camp, enjoying the fantastic views while they walked. Next, they are planning to venture to another lovely local landmark, Alice Holt Forest, to continue their training. The team are making the most of the beautiful Surrey landscapes (come rain or shine) as they prepare to take on this challenge, and we are all rooting for them.

The Ashton Manor team had a fun night out at our staff social event last week.

After a busy start to the year, and a lot of hard work put in by the team, an evening out at the pub was just what we needed. 🍾 This was the perfect opportunity to have a good chat and bond as a team, outside of the busy working lives we lead at the home.

We had lots of fun challenging each other to a game of pool, doing some group karaoke, and showing off our skills at darts! 🎯🎤🎱 But above all, we just enjoyed time together, having fun and making memories as a team.

Our residents had a fantastic time taking part in a quiz hosted by the wonderful Chris! ⭐️

Everyone had so much fun answering the quiz questions and showing off their knowledge on all sorts of topics. There were lots of laughs (a bit of friendly competition) and a truly fantastic time was had by all. Thank you to Chris for being the best quizmaster and entertaining our residents!

As well as being great entertainment and an opportunity to socialise, activities like a quiz help our residents to keep their minds active and provide cognitive stimulation. At Ashton Manor, we provide care for the body and mind 🧠, all contributing to our residents’ overall wellbeing through our holistic approach to care.
