What does dignity mean to me? 🤔

This is a question we asked our residents to consider as we approached Dignity Day at the start of the month. Dignity is incredibly important, particularly in a nursing home setting, and it is vital that we, as care staff, understand how we can make sure we are respecting our residents’ dignity.

This year, on Dignity Day, residents of Ashton Manor came together to create their ‘dignity do’s’ board. 👍 The residents shared their thoughts on what are their biggest ‘dignity do’s’, how we can all show respect and care to each other. They decorated the board with their favourite ways to uphold dignity, to create an inspiring collage for everyone in the home to see.

It was wonderful to hear our residents’ ideas on how we can all respect each other’s dignity and how we should treat one another. This activity inspired some great conversations and was inspirational for all involved.

Last week we enjoyed some fantastic entertainment from the brilliant Katie 💃

Residents had a lot of fun getting to their feet to join in with the dancing. Katie was fantastic at encouraging everyone to get involved and have fun. Our lovely staff got involved and helped our residents take part, while also showing off a few moves of their own! 😁

We all had a lot of fun, and the residents definitely enjoyed the entertainment. Thank you to Katie for showing off your skills and encouraging everyone to have fun.

Our residents recently took part in a creative activity where they could have fun and create something new.

They had a lot of fun making different shapes and figures out of the brightly coloured play dough. This was a great activity not only as a way to help encourage creativity, but also due to the benefits from the sensory aspect of the play dough.

Artistic and creative activities are very popular with our residents, and we are always looking to experiment with different materials and techniques. Whether they are painting a picture, creating a collage, or making something with play dough, residents are encouraged to express themselves, have fun, and often find relaxation through art. 🎨🖌️🤩

Recently, we took some of our residents for an outing to visit one of our favourite local garden centres. With the weather being so gloomy recently, it was nice to get out of the home and be surrounded by all the colourful flowers and greenery in the garden centre. 🌷🌻🪴

Our residents always enjoy a trip to the garden centre; there is so much to look at, and we always have some great conversations about the things we see. It wouldn’t be a trip to the garden centre without stopping off in the café for some refreshments before we headed back to the home.

It won’t be long until we’re back at the garden centre, picking out some lovely plants to add to the Ashton Manor gardens this spring.

Today is National Hug Day, a day to celebrate and appreciate the small acts (like a simple hug) that can bring comfort, show caring, and help to build trust. It’s a day to remember that the smallest acts of connection can make a big difference in someone’s life. 🤗💖

At Beritaz Care, we know the importance of comfort, compassion, and connections; it’s all part of the person-centred care provided in our homes. Whether it takes the form of hugs, a handshake, friendly chats, or simply being present, our staff are always happy to provide whatever support our residents need to bring a smile to their faces. Not to mention the four-legged visitors to our homes, who may be our residents’ favourite companions of all. 🐶🐾

Read more about how we work to build trust and form bonds between our residents and staff within our homes. Our most important goal is to make sure that every resident feels comfortable, safe, and at home in our care. https://beritazcare.co.uk/news/article/sharing-connections-hugs-and-trust-at-beritaz-care

Our residents heard that today is Blue Monday… so we decided to share some smiles and joy to cheer you up on this dreary January day 🔵 🌧️

After all the fun and festivities of the Christmas season, January can feel like a bit of a let-down. That’s why, at Beritaz Care, we do everything we can to keep the cheer going throughout January, while also making sure our residents have some well-needed relaxation time to recover from a busy Christmas season.

This month, within our homes, we have arranged some fun and engaging activities to make sure our residents aren’t fighting the blues any day in January. We are enjoying music, art, reading, games, and other fun pastimes that encourage wellbeing and provide a great opportunity to be social. While the weather is cold and wet, we are making sure our residents keep moving with indoor exercise and active games, while also enjoying delicious and nutritious meals made by the chefs in our homes.

We are doing everything we can to make January full of fun, smiles, and joyful times. What are you doing to make your January a bit brighter? We hope seeing our residents’ smiling faces helps to brighten up this Blue Monday for you.

This spring, some of our fantastic Ashton Manor team members will be taking on a sponsored walk in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society. 🥾

They will be tackling a 13-mile trek around London to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society. This is a cause very close to our hearts, and we are happy to do our part to support the Alzheimer’s Society. We see how Alzheimer’s and dementia have impacted our residents and their families, and therefore understand the importance of the work the Alzheimer’s Society does, not only the support they give to those affected by Alzheimer’s, but also the vital research they carry out into the disease.

Any donations, large or small, would be greatly appreciated to help our team reach our fundraising goal. Click here to sponsor: https://www.justgiving.com/page/ashtonmanorwalkingteam?utm_medium=FA&utm_source=OF

We feel very lucky to share so many special occasions with our residents. In 2025, we had the chance to join in with many wonderful birthday celebrations with our residents. 🎂🎁🎈

At Ashton Manor, we love finding ways to make our residents’ birthdays memorable and special for them. We will put up balloons and decorations, our kitchen team will bake a delicious birthday cake, and we make sure our residents get to celebrate their birthday in a way that is meaningful to them.

Here’s a little look at a few of the birthdays we were privileged to help our residents celebrate in 2025. We can’t wait for all the celebrations coming in 2026. 🥳🍾
