Simone from The Kent Mindfulness Centre is hosting another special mini retreat, offering us the opportunity to pause, to bring awareness to the body and to let go of things that no longer serve us. The theme during this event will be detoxing…. Learning how to cleanse the mind and body. And I will be offering insight from a functional nutritionist perspective on how to naturally support body systems involved in the detoxification pathways.

The Mind/Body Detox Retreat with Kent Mindfulness Centre is a day in which to refresh both your body & mind. Our Body/mind can become blocked with toxins both physical and mental. Everything we put into our body & mind has an effect. Sometimes we need to step back and review. So on this day....

World Health Organisation updates their exercise prescription recommendations. Regular strength training is one of my goals in 2021. An article filling me with hope and optimism this morning.🥰
Inflammation has been identified as the root cause of most if not all chronic illness and disease.
In order to reduce our levels of inflammation we can address contributors from our external and internal environment through lifestyle (exercise, sleep, stress management/mindfulness/meditation, relationships/connection, purpose/spirituality) and our diet (eating foods that heal us: nutrient dense, whole foods, avoiding foods that harm us: toxins and chemicals, allergens, refined carbs and sugars. And this practise has been advocated by The Limes Clinic for a number of years to help patients stuck in a chronic state of pain and dysfunction.
More recently we have come to realise that the vagus nerve (a nerve signalling between brain to body and body to brain) actually helps to modulate and control inflammation. And there are many things we can do to improve the function of the vagus nerve (vagal tone): cold water exposure, chanting, gargling, meditation, singing, deep breathing, movement such as yoga.
But this article highlights the use of bio electronics to stimulate the vagus nerve. Studies so far show promising results in reducing inflammation in patients with rheumatoid arthritis in particular.
These are implanted devices, but there are also now affordable external devices on the market.
I’ll be trying this out over the next month or two and will feedback any results!
