✨ Are you dreading ‘ditching the dummy’? It’s a huge transition for our little ones (and us too!)

I can still vividly remember supporting our eldest child with giving up his. We had absolutely dreaded it and kept putting it off as the timing didn’t feel right. We got there in the end, with lots of comfort, reassurance and praise! Our little one is still using his for now and that’s one we’ll tackle in a few months when the timing feels right. For now, it’s working for him 😊

Take a look at my FREE guide for some tips and advice on how to support your little one.

A Quick Guide To Diet, Exercise & Sleep for your little one ✨

Diet and exercise plays a significant role in regulating and impacting sleep. Some foods promote sleep and others inhibit it. Is your child consuming a healthy, balanced diet that meets all of their nutritional needs?

Could vitamin deficiencies be contributing to your little one’s sleep difficulties?

Could a high sugar diet be impacting their ability to fall asleep? Imagine trying to sleep immediately after drinking an energy drink- probably isn’t going to happen!

If your little one’s isn’t getting enough calories during the day, they may be waking up hungry in the night.

It’s worth looking at your child’s dietary intake to see whether they are getting adequate nutrition from the foods they are eating. Poor diet can have huge effects on your little one’s physical health, their growth and social/emotional development.

Hold them when they cry. They’re not manipulating you. They need you to show them their needs are important.

Feed them when they ask. They’re not greedy. Diet culture hasn’t taught them to override their body’s signals yet.

Meet them with love and guidance, not anger. They’re not naughty. Their brains haven’t developed fully yet.

Go to them in the night. They’re not wrapping you around their little finger. They need you so they can feel safe.

You are the world to them, and they learn that they are good, valid, and safe from your responses.

Ignoring their cries for support teaches them that they are not important, they don’t know their own bodies, they should be ashamed of their feelings, and that no one is coming to help them.

If you forget to do things in advance or that just isn’t your style, don’t worry because your little one will naturally adjust to the changes.

🛏️Thinking of moving your little one into a separate/different sleep space? Perhaps your little one currently bedshares with you and you want to move them to their own space? Or maybe you are preparing to move them into their own room?

Transitions can be difficult for our little one’s to manage. They are likely to feel safest and most comfortable when being near to you. For the firsr 6 months at least, they should sleep in the same room as you (daytime and night-time), in line with safe sleep guidance.

See my free guide below for some tips on how to manage these transitions. And remember every child and every family is different!

My biggest tip is to go at your little one’s pace and try to think about what these changes might feel like for them. Helping them to feel as safe and secure as possible will make transitions smoother, although can take longer in some cases.
