We do this by working on the bodies structure and function aiming to restore it to a state of balance. By using the principles that the body is a unit and that the wellbeing of a person depends on all the body systems working smoothly together (muscles, ligaments, bones and connective tissue). We use techniques such as stretching, massage and joint mobilisation and to reduce muscle tension, improve joint mobility, fluid dynamics and help along the body’s own healing mechanisms. Aftercare advice is also given to promote health, aid recovery, prevent future reoccurrence and give patients the tools to help themselves should symptoms reoccur. Osteopaths are trained to treat patients of all ages as well as pregnant woman, children and babies without the use of drugs or surgery. Medical conditions which can be treated by osteopaths include:
Arthritic pain
Circulatory problems
Cramp
Digestion problems
Fibromyalgia
Frozen shoulder/ shoulder and elbow pain/ tennis elbow arising from associated musculoskeletal conditions of the back and neck, but not isolated occurrences
Headache arising from the neck

Joint pains including hip and knee pain from osteoarthritis as an adjunct to core OA treatments and exercise
General, acute & chronic backache, back pain (not arising from injury or accident)

Part of being an osteopath is looking at the body as a whole, and getting to the cause of the pain not just rubbing the sore bits.
