Happy New Year! I hope you had a brillliant festive break. What a beautiful snowy morning to start the week!!

Classes resume today at 6.30pm with Flow and Restore - gentle yoga and meditation with lots of blankets to ease into 2026. And a full schedule of classes for the week ahead.

Thanks to everyone who came to the Yoga Felixstowe Christmas social last night - it was a lot of fun! We had a full class with no hangovers this morning, too. Good work. Big thanks also to .co.uk for looking after us so well.

September YF classes area all about finding space in the front of the body.

Many of us spend a lot of our day sitting down. This can lead to a rounded posture, tight hip flexors and a collapsed chest. Gentle back bends and chest-opening poses can help counteract these effects by stretching the chest, shoulders and hips, improving posture and breathing capacity. This openness not only relieves physical tension but also boosts energy and creates a sense of lightness, balancing out the heaviness that can come from prolonged sitting. Open your heart with me!

This is our final week of core stability focus!

What is core stability?
The ability to maintain a stabilised spinal position by resisting movement. Or using the muscles of the trunk to support the spine and body during activity.

Why it’s important...
Improves posture
Increases agility
Improves balance, coordination and control
Enhances breathing
Boosts your ability to generate power
Protects from injury

A consistent yoga practice can help improve core stability in a variety of ways.
Breathwork is an effective way to improve core stability and strength. Belly breathing engages the deep core muscles and pelvic floor and improves lung capacity.

Practicing a combination of anterior (front body), posterior (back body), lateral and rotational exercises, so all different muscles groups are being worked. Lunges, planks, locust, side bends, bridge - all great for improving core stability. Come join!

For the next few weeks we will work on active range of motion (movement of the joint using muscle contraction with no external force), end range engagement (creating a contraction in a lengthened muscle) and working the hips through full range of motion. There will also be lots of nice stretchy, twisty, flowing movement and connecting with the breath to help you feel strong, grounded and centred. come join!

Wednesday flow is on tonight at Felixstowe Methodist Church Hall. We are focusing on twists and binds in class this month - lots of fun variations to try and a couple of little challenges here and there!

Our focus for the month is backbends - we will work on lots of prep to help the body feel more comfortable in backbends such as camel, wheel and bow.
