Dermal filler is an art, but it is also a medical procedure.
One of the safety steps that should never be rushed or overlooked is aspiration. This is the process of gently pulling back on the syringe before injecting, to check that the needle or cannula is NOT inside a blood vessel.
Injecting filler into a vessel can lead to serious complications. Aspiration adds an extra layer of safety, allowing the practitioner to pause, reassess, and proceed correctly.
